22/02/2026: McGettigan’s on Queen Street feels like a pub that never needed to reinvent itself. This is the original McGettigan’s, opened in the 1960s by Jim McGettigan, long before the name became a global Irish pub brand. You can still sense that origin story in the room. It does not feel franchised. It feels local. When we walked in, an older gentleman was behind the bar. Calm, grounded, attentive without hovering. The kind of old-school publican presence that makes you feel oriented immediately. No performance, no exaggerated charm, just steady hospitality. The atmosphere was exactly what a neighbourhood pub should be. People sitting casually, talking in low steady tones. Nothing trendy, nothing buzzing for the sake of buzz. One television quietly showing football. The game was there if you wanted it, but the conversations were louder than the broadcast. That balance matters. Drinks were spot on. I had a Whiplash IPA, a good reflection of contemporary Dublin craft brewing, crisp with that slightly citrus forward edge. My friend went with Smithwick’s, the classic Irish red ale, smooth and malt-driven. That pairing alone tells you something about the place. It comfortably holds both modern craft and traditional staples without making a statement about either. We ordered Dublin Coddle, and that sealed the experience. Sausages, rashers, potatoes and onions slow cooked into something deeply comforting and unapologetically unfancy. Coddle is not photogenic. It is historical. It comes from working class Dublin kitchens, designed to stretch ingredients and warm people through long weeks. Seeing it on the menu in Dublin 7 makes perfect sense. It is culturally coherent. The menu itself was short and straightforward, around seven traditional dishes. No gastro ambitions, no fusion experiments. Just solid pub food that matches the room. What struck me most was the absence of theatricality. No curated nostalgia, no exaggerated Irishness for visitors. It simply operates as a pub. Given that the McGettigan name now exists in places like Dubai and London, it is interesting that this original location still feels grounded and unpolished in the best way. If you are looking for literary ghosts or a 200 year old time capsule, this is not that. If you want a dependable pint, warm service, honest food and conversations that feel like they belong to the people having them, this is a very good place to sit down and stay longer than planned. We came for a drink. We left feeling like we had stepped briefly into the durable backbone of Dublin pub culture.

25/11/2025: A fantastic little find. The cafe is at the top of the main street in Cong. The food, prices and service was second to none. We had the breakfast and it set us up for the day.

08/02/2026: Tasteless pasta in extremely watery sauce, I could most definitely cook better at home, way overpriced for what we got, was asked before we went was there any dietary requirements which was pointless as no-one asked about it or even mentioned alternative menu, staff were absolutely great but food tasteless and basic at best, restaurant is down very steep steps which we weren't aware of with 2 elderly parents

06/07/2025: I had the fish & chips special, which was delicious, along with a glass of cava. The two went great together. Also tried a mango / passion fruit tart, which was amazing! The place is cozy and the service is great. Had a lovely time!

04/07/2025: I saw the summer special for fish and chips and a glass of cava for €26 and decided to try it. The service from when we got there was great. We placed our order and the food was out in under 10 minutes. 2 cods were on the plate but I’d say the star of the dish was the tartar sauce never had anything like it and the fish was super crispy. 10/10 would recommend and the cava pairing worked really well!

12/02/2026: I would leave more than 5 stars if possible. From the beautiful store to amazing cafe, we throughly enjoyed visiting Kilkenny Design. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We left with the most beautiful gifts for our loved ones. We will be back next time we are in Dublin.

08/01/2026: The friendliest staff in town, so welcoming on Christmas eve and facilitated our young family for some food (after another place close by were not happy with us as we had a buggy). Food was delicious and service prompt.

03/02/2026: Stopped by Supermac’s Roscommon and had a great experience. We asked for a half-and-half pizza, and the staff were kind enough to accommodate the request without any hassle, which we really appreciated. The vegetarian pizza was very tasty, and the burger was equally good, fresh and satisfying. Service was friendly and efficient, making the visit even better. Overall, a solid place for pizza and burgers with helpful staff. Would happily recommend.

02/02/2026: Place is well worn & in need of refresh tbh. Burgers were very tasty & chips were hot. nuggets were luke warm & had been there for a while, unpleasant to say the least. Didnt finish them. Was soaked after funeral so little choice thst time of evening. Mayo was charged 1.50, which i chose expecting tub, as the picture showed, alas not to be, 3 sachets of hellmans arrived out. Joke & should be free. Was in company so didnt comment. Staff very helpful and attentive.

10/01/2026: Great restaurant. Always has different specials that are varied and delicious. The menu can be mostly done gluten free which is amazing. The atmosphere is very good and the staff always friendly. The restaurant is a one minute walk from the seaside where you can walk away the dinner after.

07/08/2025: Arrived at 1:15 and had the place to ourselves. Best oysters we have had in Ireland, and that's high praise. Food was delicious, our server, John, was excellent, and cannot recommend highly enough.

01/12/2025: September 2025 Coziest pub in Ireland that we stumbled upon on our bike tour. The owner was amazing and let us pitch our tent in a field nearby for the night. Can also recommend the café in the same building.
