13/08/2025: low ceilings and noisy. strangely popular. though a good menu.

11/08/2025: Is the cafe under new management? Very poor service and food when I visited today, completely out of step with how it has been previously. Kilkenny Cafe was known for their scrambled eggs by those who frequent regularly but they were dry and tasteless today. The coffee service area has moved and the staff member had to leave me standing at the crowded till while she went to make my coffee, which then spilled all over the saucer while she was transferring it to me. The staff were also particularly abrupt and rude, having a very loud conversation when I arrived and leaving me standing at the hot food counter for a few minutes before the lady walked over and simply said 'Toast?' to me. I didn't even realize she was speaking to me initially. Sad to see the decline in standards.

07/09/2025: My first time in this place with my partner. I can say I will never be returning back. After being seated down by member staff who then took order of drinks. Then to be seated for 20mints while 3 members of staff walked in and out and never took are order. Then to take other customers order is terrible service.

07/07/2025: Went for a family meal Location is great Staff are friendly Food not good Chicken wings I'd give them a 5 of ot 10 Was like they where reheated, wasn't fresh anyways, Sauce is nice Chips where fine Burger wasn't good , very burnt very little cheese and looked nothing like the picture, pepper sauce was lovely though, , If it was just food would be 2 stars I'd give it a star up for staff and Location so overall a 3 Maybe was just a off day.

20/06/2025: We only went to the bar. Beautifully decorated, super friendly staff, and good food. Great location in the center; there's always something to see when you sit outside.

08/08/2025: It was an old room with a lot of mold and mildew in the bathroom and no amenities in the room, no slippers, no toothbrush... none of that. Considering the price I paid, it was extremely poor.

06/08/2025: Attended wedding.. Beautiful buildings and gardens, food excellent and staff wonderful 👍

04/08/2025: Stayed for one night bed, breakfast and dinner with my good friend. We had 2 single rooms, bed and pillows were so comfortable. Everything catered for in the room. Fabulous old world charming building, with its own orchard and garden growing herbs, vegetables, flowers etc. The food was amazing. Dinner menu had varied choices to suit and was presented so well. The homemade bread was fabulous. I had scallop for starter and Monkfish for mains and a rhubarb dessert. All delicious. My friend had a fish starter and rack of lamb. Potato and vegetable served on the side along with a cheese board. Food was fantastic. We really enjoyed our evening. The owner John Edward hands on approach is wonderful, a true professional 👏 and to all his team. There was a personal friendly feel. I would definitely go back there again. Great value for money. It would be a very special place for a small wedding, family get together, or friends gathering for a night or two. We bumped into old friends of mine who joined us in the drawing room for a great catch up. Added bonus to our lovely stay at The Mustard Seed. They accept blue book vouchers too.

21/08/2025: We were here and had the chicken bacon and leek, which tasted okay, with a side of vegetables that were completely unseasoned. The Cajun chicken was also unseasoned, and the garlic potatoes were garlic-free 😢. Coleslaw wasn't good either, and was full of mayo 😢. Either someone is trying to relive the past, or the real chef was on vacation 🤷🏻‍♂️.

13/08/2025: Beautiful and charming old style hotel and restaurant. The restaurant is open for lunch on the weekends and high tea is available every day. The gardens are absolutely stunning and service is very lovely. The high tea experience is a real treat, sandwiches and cakes, scones and tea or coffee or prosecco. A real lovey treat in a beautiful setting. The hotels also offers rooms with breakfast options. Tranquil setting.

05/08/2025: This is one of my favourite places for afternoon tea (never stayed so cannot say anything about the rooms but suspect they have a old world irresistable charm, as the whole place does!). It feels like you are stepping back 150 years into the Victorian era. The garden is wonderful! Go before its is overtaken by the modern age . . .

22/08/2025: Food was fabulous. Great atmosphere and phenomenal staff. Sarah was a star and my daughter had the most wonderful birthday. Thank you. Highly recommend the dish pie.

08/08/2025: The Staff were so welcoming as we walked in and the food was so tasty Really enjoyed it my Husband had the beef burger and i had the chicken fillet burger and our little girls portion of pasta was perfect service was really good The lad that served us was really friendly we will be back

02/09/2025: Mannings offers delicious tapas in the evenings. Casually stylish surrounds, relaxed vibes and friendly, helpful staff. The food is excellent (the bravas are sensational!) and they sell wine on tap (genius!). Always guaranteed a good evening - we love it there! The deli/cafe/shop that they operate in the day is also amazing too - an awesome selection of local cheeses, lots of interesting and yummy food treats, as well as good coffee and huge croissants! If you're in the area, definitely pop in!

15/08/2025: I brought my mom for very 1st time to experience Afternoon Tea in Lord Mayor’s Lounge at The Shelbourne hotel. Together with her and also my sister in law and little niece we had amazing experience, everything was delicious, the desserts looks fairytale and taste heavenly, we been completely spoiled by our waitress Karla and lovely Imelda. Thank you so much girls for everything.

03/08/2025: We had a booking for 12:00 and got there at 11:55. They sat us down and at that time there were only 2 or 3 other tables with people. As more people came in, they were all getting served before us. We noticed that the waiters were explaining to each table how it all worked as they were seating the guests. No one explained how it worked or came to our table for 20 minutes, at which point we just left. As we were leaving, other tables were getting food and tea. There was staff standing around, and our table was very visible. Waiters were constantly walking past us. I don’t think it’s acceptable to have to hail a waiter at a 5 star hotel when expected to pay 75 euro (minimum) a head. We ended up going to Bewley’s and were served within 5 minutes without even having a booking. I went to the Westbury for afternoon tea last year and the service was a lot better. Maybe we just got unlucky but I would definitely never go back to the Shelbourne, especially when paying that amount of money.

13/08/2025: Despite having free tables in the dinner area the waiter insisted that i seat beaside the toilett door....whouithout evening special (haddock gujons)...so i got up and left I have been a regular customer in Keanns and didnt like her attitude and his attitude...it was 8.00 pm... Very disappointing ...absoluttely fabullous fish and chips in Giovannis...cod ..(not haddock) 28 euro for two portions....take away though..

11/06/2025: A Standout Spot in Castlebar There’s truly no place like The Bridge Street Bar in Castlebar. The drinks are excellent, and there’s always a great buzz whether you’re there for a casual evening or a big night out. Its central location makes it the perfect meeting spot, and it’s quickly become one of the go-to venues in the area. A brilliant addition to Castlebar’s social scene; highly recommend it!
