The best restaurants

31/05/2025: Some of the service was relatively lackluster, menus were dirty, and the restrooms and restaurant weren't particularly clean. The food was good, though. Gluten-free pizza and pasta available.

18/05/2025: We ate pasta there. Everything tasted like it was pre-made sauce with lots of garlic powder. The food wasn't good. The service was very friendly and nice, but very loud, as the dishes we ordered were constantly being called into the kitchen. The restroom was simply disgusting. It wasn't cleaned, it was incredibly dirty. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant.

26/07/2025: Used to love coming here until it was purchased recently. Made it a completely different pub. Ridiculous music ever Friday and Saturday coming out of the bar into the lounge and you can’t even hear the person beside you all the out in the lounge. Prices of drinks rose for no reason. Not what Ashbourne wants or needs - leave it alone :) Should’ve bought another pub in the town

15/07/2025: Under new ownership and it appears that the only thing they did was to put the prices up. We were heading into Dublin and decided to pop in for a pint or two, and then catch a later bus, as I had not had a chance to visit since the new ownership. I did not notice any changes since the new owners took over, bar Lockey is no longer behind the bar. We ordered two pints of Moretti lager and we were charged 15 Euro for them. My cousin nearly fell off his stool when he saw what I was being charged. At least we got the dearest pints out of the way quickly, as the bars on Thomas Street all charged us less. We even ended up paying less clubbing in The George after midnight. They charged us 7.20 a pint of Moretti. It's a bit mad that a pub in Ashbourne, that hasn't been renovated in such a long time, would be dearer than all the bars we visited on Thomas Street, as well as a city center night club.

27/03/2025: We’ve been ordering from them since we lived locally to them but continued since we moved farther away, which should tell you everything you need to know. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the delivery team are the exact same. We can’t say enough about their dedication to making sure you get what you need when you choose New Century, kudos to them for their service! We obviously enjoy their menu and if you like Thai/Chinese cuisine you should definitely try their food for yourselves.

09/06/2025: This review is about sustainability only! By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Over 95% of the plastic that we consume does not actually get recycled, but rather ends up in landfills, incinerators, and in our waterways. It is depleting ecosystems all over the world and here in Galway. I was disappointed to see so much single use plastic being sold and discarded at this establishment. Especially because of its location right on the water. It feels shameful to try to enjoy these stunning views while simultaneously contributing to pollution that harms these very ecosystems. Surely, there is a way that you can incentivize customers to bring their own reusable mugs at the very least. Or, because of the attached restaurant, perhaps you can explicitly ask customers if they are enjoying their beverage to stay, and give them the dignity of a real mug that will not pollute the waters that they have come to enjoy and learn from. You could promote bringing your own cup on social media, you could have more clear, recycling or compost infrastructure, you could give small discounts to those of us bringing our own cups, you could try literally anything. But it will take both customers and businesses to work together to stop perpetuating the plastic pollution crisis that is plaguing our entire planet. Thank you for considering how to help Galway locals and tourists. Be better to the Galway ecosystem.

27/04/2025: All the standard coffeees plus nice/healthy bowls. Coffee is very nice. The staff though!! Everytime I go there I seem to get someone who's making their first coffee. Unnecessary queues down the path. I worked in baristas before. Staff aren't sufficiently trained. Place is always a mess. The service area, self service area and shelf beside it. Ground is always filthy. Definitely the most expensive take away coffee joints in the city, yet unwilling to pay for decent staff. Wish it was better. Only place around so they can do what they want I guess. Hope inside is better equipped.

25/07/2025: This review is purely based on what I witnessed today: a male manager belittling his staff right in front of me. I come here often, and the staff is always polite and efficient. But today, I stood waiting at the register while a male manager stood directly in front of me, criticizing a male employee in a way that was hard to ignore. He didn’t acknowledge me at all, leaving me awkwardly standing there while it unfolded. When the female cashier returned, he immediately started speaking to her in a condescending tone as well. I don’t know what this manager might be dealing with, but the way he spoke to his employees was unkind, unprofessional, and unnecessary.

22/07/2025: Superb shop selling everything - fantastic food especially for those with dietary restrictions

20/07/2025: I searched every corner of the supermarket with an empty coffee cup and couldn't find anywhere to put it. I had to carry it back to my car because I didn't have access to a trash can in the entire place. I also ate food and couldn't find any restroom facilities; apparently, the restroom was closed.

07/04/2025: Called in for quiet casual drinks. Very unfriendly team. We both said hello. Non verbal back. Not even a smile. Thankfully no food served here. Toilets disgraceful, filty. Toilet roll dispensers and hand soaps dispensers all opened and hanging down. 3 toilets filthy. 1 toilet sanitary bucket on top of lid with a stand on floor as not to go in. Loose taps. Hand drys blowing cold hair. Very run down place.

29/11/2024: Como local siempre me ha gustado este lugar, pero tengo que decir que ha cambiado completamente en el último año. Si bien las pintas son un € 5 que es genial, la calidad de las instalaciones no es grande. La falta de mantenimiento parece ser el mayor problema, especialmente en los baños femeninos. Es una lástima ya que podría ser un establecimiento fantástico para todos.

13/07/2025: shouted at by staff for asking to use the bathroom as a paying customer. Incredibly rude staff warned to leave the facilities as i found them that staff weren’t willing to clean them again.

14/03/2025: I was in here a few times at the deli counter and had a bad experience there visited again today to get lunch and this woman just grunted at me yaaa when she seen me eyelashes like something you’d see on the side of a road sweeper I see from previous reviews I’m not the first to say it you’d nearly feel guilty asking for anything sighs at any request and plasters the mayo into the doll as if she was filling a hole in a wall with poly filler I know what I’d do with her if I was the owner

13/08/2025: Myself,hubby and daughter stayed at this hotel on Sunday 10th August,the girl behind the reception wasn't friendly (roisin), room wasn't ready to check into until 4 o'clock,u have to booked the swimming pool,then we went into the bar to get food,was told there was three family's booked in before us,we decided to have a drink while we waited,I then asked the bar man when did they stop serving food ,he say 20 mins ago,they had forgotten about us,got no food,very disappointed to be honest,and then no children after 9.30 in the bar, so had to get a chippy,

12/04/2025: Very nice service. I don't know about the food, but the sandwiches (toast) look great and are delicious. This is the only place selling wine on the market, although the selection is modest.
