Americana
Dublin
25/12/2025: Loved my time at The Devlin Bar! Great cocktails and a cool, relaxed vibe in the heart of Ranelagh. The bartenders were friendly and the drinks were creative and delicious. Perfect spot for evening drinks or a fun night out with friends. Highly recommend

HX 46
Dublin
16/02/2026: Great spot, seating and on street parking available, nice coffee and brunch
12/02/2026: A rather unremarkable experience, the two girls behind the counter lacked people skills and chatted amongst themselves while one ate chips, a wrap and seemed more like she was a customer! That aside the food is average at best and the high prices do not reflect the quality one would expect. The local Chinese in Goatstown is far better value and the standard of food is much higher.

Berehaven Lodge
17/03/2026: I recently stayed for one night at Berehaven Lodge Pods with my family, and it was a truly memorable experience. Set on an expansive eleven-acre property, the retreat offers breathtaking views overlooking Bere Island and Berehaven Harbour, creating a peaceful and scenic atmosphere that is perfect for a relaxing getaway.
The location is ideal, just about five kilometers from the charming fishing town of Castletownbere on the beautiful Beara Peninsula. It provides a great balance between tranquility and accessibility, allowing visitors to explore the surrounding area with ease while enjoying a quiet retreat.
The pod we stayed in was very cosy, clean, and thoughtfully designed. Despite its compact size, it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The space was well maintained, and the overall setup made it feel warm and welcoming. It was also excellent value for money, especially considering the stunning location and peaceful environment.
Spending time surrounded by nature, with panoramic views and fresh coastal air, made our short stay feel refreshing and special. It’s a perfect spot for families or anyone looking to unwind away from busy city life.
Overall, we had a great experience and would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting West Cork.
17/03/2026: Berehaven Lodge is a lovely and comfortable place to stay with a peaceful atmosphere. The rooms are clean, cozy, and well-kept, making it a relaxing experience. The lodge also offers pods, which are a unique and enjoyable way to stay. The surrounding views are beautiful and add to the charm of the place

McGettigan's
Dublin
03/03/2026: Stayed for 2 nights, really lovely rooms, exemplary service from Paul & great value. Will eat in the restaurant when we go back & we will.
22/02/2026: McGettigan’s on Queen Street feels like a pub that never needed to reinvent itself.
This is the original McGettigan’s, opened in the 1960s by Jim McGettigan, long before the name became a global Irish pub brand. You can still sense that origin story in the room. It does not feel franchised. It feels local.
When we walked in, an older gentleman was behind the bar. Calm, grounded, attentive without hovering. The kind of old-school publican presence that makes you feel oriented immediately. No performance, no exaggerated charm, just steady hospitality.
The atmosphere was exactly what a neighbourhood pub should be. People sitting casually, talking in low steady tones. Nothing trendy, nothing buzzing for the sake of buzz. One television quietly showing football. The game was there if you wanted it, but the conversations were louder than the broadcast. That balance matters.
Drinks were spot on. I had a Whiplash IPA, a good reflection of contemporary Dublin craft brewing, crisp with that slightly citrus forward edge. My friend went with Smithwick’s, the classic Irish red ale, smooth and malt-driven. That pairing alone tells you something about the place. It comfortably holds both modern craft and traditional staples without making a statement about either.
We ordered Dublin Coddle, and that sealed the experience. Sausages, rashers, potatoes and onions slow cooked into something deeply comforting and unapologetically unfancy. Coddle is not photogenic. It is historical. It comes from working class Dublin kitchens, designed to stretch ingredients and warm people through long weeks. Seeing it on the menu in Dublin 7 makes perfect sense. It is culturally coherent.
The menu itself was short and straightforward, around seven traditional dishes. No gastro ambitions, no fusion experiments. Just solid pub food that matches the room.
What struck me most was the absence of theatricality. No curated nostalgia, no exaggerated Irishness for visitors. It simply operates as a pub. Given that the McGettigan name now exists in places like Dubai and London, it is interesting that this original location still feels grounded and unpolished in the best way.
If you are looking for literary ghosts or a 200 year old time capsule, this is not that. If you want a dependable pint, warm service, honest food and conversations that feel like they belong to the people having them, this is a very good place to sit down and stay longer than planned.
We came for a drink. We left feeling like we had stepped briefly into the durable backbone of Dublin pub culture.

Pipers Corner
Dublin
25/10/2025: Great little pub.
Service excellent.
Pints of stout excellent.
A few lovely tunes playing in the corner.
A real Dublin pub you must visit.
19/10/2025: Such a shame. We had a beer and walked around the city when we passed by this establishment. We could hear the music from the street so we decided to finish our drink and head to this place. When we got inside, the waiter told us that he wouldn't serve us because we drunk outside the establishment. I tried to tell him that if was just unfortunate and we didn't have any bad intentions but he threw us out acting in bad faith. Well, sorry buddy, I'd have loved to visit this establishment but you were rude and frankly ridiculous.
