The best restaurants

01/01/2025: Good selection of cocktails however the ones we wanted were out of the homemade syrup so we had to try other cocktails on the menu. They were ok, nothing special. Atmosphere is really cool, great vibe and great service.

31/12/2024: Really nice spot, great terrace area but the cocktails for 14 euros should be much better quality. The espresso martini I ordered wasn't good. Too sugary, too thin, off balance. You get a proper one for the same price across the road.

25/09/2024: Stop here after going to killney hill. Service was fast. Friendly staff. Tasty sandwich and good coffee.

23/10/2024: Went to Hillbillys yesterday 'Rathmines ' for the first time, ordered a dinner box for takeaway, the girl who took my order was very friendly and helpful when I asked her for particular pieces of chicken, I could see that the man doing the cooking was quick and efficient, the only way knock back was the gravy ,as a regular in older established chicken franchises, Hillbillys gravy was a disappointment, their gravy was much too thick and the taste did not reflect the wonderful taste of the chicken and flavoured coating, gravy has to be thick but it also has to be able to flow ,the consistency of this gravy was unfortunately like cement, the dinner box was excellent, staff were really pleasant, get the gravy right, consistency and more flavour and this place will be a winner, John

18/01/2025: 🥪 Had a soup and a toastie at this café. They were good but very average. I thought that the food quality could defined be improved for such an important landmark. 🏡 The atmosphere was somewhat cosy but also a bit chaotic as it’s a self service restaurant. 💸 Prices were very high for the quality of food.

14/10/2024: Food is good. I have deducted 1 star because the service can be slow but that is more to do with the canteen style ordering system rather than the staff who are friendly. The views are outstanding but I have deducted 2 stars because the wifi is terrible and the mobile service is the same.

02/11/2024: I just do not get this place. We ordered fish and chips and sausage and chips. We waited and eternity, as they were busy. They put both orders in brown bags. When we came to eat them, the chips were mush. You could not eat them. If you tried to use a fork, they broke in half. They had not been fried in hot enough fat nor blanched to make them crispy. Putting them in bags makes them steam. The fish was total mush. The batter had disintegrated into the chips, and it just made the chips even more sodden. It was the worst piece of fish we have ever eaten. The bit I don't get, why is it busy? We will never come back.

26/01/2025: The place is old school but it's nice. It's a perfect winter stay. The leisure centre was silent and peaceful I truly relaxed. Breakfast was great. All staff from reception, bar, restaurant, housekeeping etc were super friendly 👌 and location is great.

03/12/2024: Breakfast sandwich. 1 small sausage, 1 tiny rasher,1 white pudding, 1 small egg. €7.50 No more.

13/12/2024: Lovely spacious location and food good value and quality. I found the woman who took my order patronising and she omitted a salad from 5 salad deal without explaination and charged me for it. Set up is confusing. I wish they would just go back to the pre COVID self service arrangement.

31/12/2024: I visited Sliced in Ballincollig with one other person after hearing positive opinions from people who had their lunchtime sandwiches. I was more than impressed with what we got. I knew Sliced since they first opened in Cork city centre as a pizza/pasta restaurant. I usually have pizza for dinner and when I heard they offered good sandwiches, I thought to visit at lunchtime to see what it was like. The site in Ballincollig is roomy and bright. The staff were very kind and found a table for us immediately on arrival. It was not busy at the time we arrived, around 1.30pm on a Thursday. The menu is the same as what is on their website. We ordered the Guac Chicken Wrap and Chicken Caesar Wrap. Both were served with salad and tortilla crisps. Soup or chips were available as side orders. Both dishes tasted amazing. The reason I am not giving the food five stars is because they should have made it clear to customers that there is a salad and tortillas with the order. I was close to ordering a side salad but happy I did not since it was already on the plate. The price for both sandwiches was just over €20 which is not bad given the serving size and presentation. I would recommend Sliced to anyone dining out for lunch in Ballincollig.
