The best restaurants

18/03/2025: My family and I stayed in The Gleneagle on Patrick’s weekend for a family occasion. Overall the whole experience was lovely. However, we had dinner in Fiadh on Saturday night and my Dad regrettably found a small piece of glass in his water, thankfully before he consumed it. I immediately informed a supervisor but she didn’t even come over to the table to apologise, only told a more senior restaurant manager who didn’t come over immediately either. I decided to go up for a second time to speak with someone as we all, understandably, felt a little uneasy about the situation and were awaiting more food. That, and I was surprised no one had come over still to address the table. I ended up speaking with the manager and he was apologetic but that was about it. At the end of our meal the same manager finally came over and offered to comp a bottle of wine and two meals, which was appreciated. However, my Dad’s meal wasn’t the one comped, nor did the manager even address him or ask anything further about the situation. The communication overall, given that we found glass in our meal, was far below what I expected of a four star hotel and left us all rather disappointed, as we all don’t get together too often. The rest of our experience was really great. However I’d be remiss not to mention this story to anyone thinking of staying here as the service and communication regarding the whole situation was simply that poor.

21/09/2024: This place is an absolute gem. Atmosphere is always great and the food is consistently excellent. Eaten here countless times and never had anything less than a brilliant experience.

14/09/2024: Some restaurants serve good food and others have great decor or good service. But the Pier Cafe is blessed with all tree bound together by an amazing ambiance. We had a wonderful dining experience here with great food and attentive service. There's such a buzz here, it's great. Sarah, front of house, expertly makes the restaurant run like clockwork and is so personable. We had the prawn Dahl and duck salad for starters followed by entrecôte steak and beef ribs. Faultless. It's really great value for money and a most memorable experience.

11/04/2025: Authentic, local, traditional. For a real Limerick experience you have to tey Donkeys. Small menu, cheap. They do what they do well. The chips are magic.

05/11/2024: Lovely home made food, proper nice strong tea, Everything on menu reasonably/affordably priced, no price gouging, which is a rarety in Eire these days, family of 4 left happy, warm and fed.

30/03/2025: Nice pub, plenty of snugs. Good pint - head too high had to ask for a top up. Fish good, but mostly batter - pricing good!

05/04/2025: We ordered a dish that looked like it had peas in the photo, but it turned out that if we wanted to add them, we'd have to pay an extra €4. The food was delicious, but the service left something to be desired, and the portions were very small.

03/04/2025: Chicken was raw. Had to return it. Left very unhappy.

06/03/2025: Easy to walk around and navigate to what I wanted

16/03/2025: Overnight stay while visiting the distillery which is a short walk into town. The bar and room were super clean and the furnishings upstairs made me feel like I was back at my Granny's house, which is good!

07/01/2025: Stayed here twice this year. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Showers had great water pressure. Anne and Brendan were great hosts. The bar downstairs is great. They serve a good pint. This is a fine location to walk into Midleton for great food. A nice walk to the distillery as well. We will be back again.

14/02/2025: The food is amazingly good with a good portion size. The staff is lovely and the atmosphere is relaxing. The decoration has a farmhouse style and the wall has artwork from local artists. The bathroom is also very clean. There is a car park nearby and only 2 min walk from an electric car charging point. If I ever pass by Tullow again I would definitely visit this place.
