28/01/2025: Super disappointed with our experience here on Saturday 25th jan, normally we have a great time at this place but my partner and I arrived at 7pm dressed up to the nines to have a romantic dinner together..we drove over from the south side and paid 6€ for parking around the corner but it was an absolute waste of time and money. We went inside and politely asked for a table for two.. the hostess on the door insisted right off the bat that they had a lot of birthdays in that night and that they wouldn’t be able to seat us at all. The lounge was half empty and there were lots of empty tables dotted around…she said everything was reserved: so we asked if we could take a seat at the bar and wait for a table to open up as we’d come a long way and didn’t know the area..and did not realise a booking was essential considering its just bar food. She suggested we go to the bar to try get a seat as it would likely be more empty but we walked in and it was an entirely different experience…lights on and all the tables full with people just drinking and no atmosphere whatsoever. We had aspirations to have the romantic atmosphere and enjoy the chilled lounge vibes and so we tentatively went back into the lounge to again offer to sit at the bar, we were optimistic when the waitress gave us menus to browse while we wait…1 hour later we had had one drink and got quickly frustrated seeing no one arrive to any 2 seater tables. By 8:20 we decided to give up when the hostess came over and said the kitchen was closing soon and that we’d need to order if we wanted anything…so what exactly were the chances of the people who had not shown up getting food? We would have ordered food and drink and left by the time any of those people came. We are polite and respectful individuals who have been to the botanic on numerous occasions for parties and casual visits for food and we’ve never been refused or made to feel so uncomfortable or left out. If a proper manager had been on the floor monitoring the situation and our attitude they’d have accommodated us based on our time frame needed for service. I mean at least offer to seat clients if they assure they will be done by a certain time. We would have wrapped up in an hour no problem. But we never got the chance. Seemed the staff didn’t want a busy Saturday night so they tried to hero patrons to a minimum. We wound up leaving hungry, upset and the rest of the night was spent at home ordering pizza. Do better.

25/01/2025: Lovely food, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Good size portions and tasty. The staff are friendly but I had to take off a couple of stars for a couple of things I expect as standard; I had to chase the server to order a drink, the starters were not served at the same time, two mains came much earlier than the rest and I was completely passed over twice, never asked/offered dessert or tea/coffee. Other than that, it's very good. I'd still recommend it as a nice place to eat 👍

22/10/2024: Had a lovely few pints here last night - a group of about 8 of us who stayed for a good 4-5 rounds. Decided to come back today for a pre-dinner drink to celebrate my birthday and were shouted at by a “gentleman” drinking at the bar who pretty much told us we weren’t welcome and was incensed that we had the audacity to pull a chair across. He told us to go sit outside in the beer garden or in the snug. One of my party said, “Do you want us to leave?” He replied, “Yes, I do.” The man apologised to the barkeeper, who said, “You’re alright.” We drank up and left immediately, as we had been made to feel so unwelcome.

25/09/2024: Accidentally eating at Oscar’s Cafe provided me with one of the best breakfasts I had on our trip to Ireland. I was doing the driving, so I asked my sweetheart and trusty navigator to find us a bakery so we could grab a coffee to go and a pastry for the road. I was hoping to find something before we got into Dublin, and the driving got “tricky” since I’m from the states. She assured me it was a doughnut place on the outskirts of Dublin and was only 20 minutes away. Well, in all its wisdom, Apple Maps routed us to the warehouse for a doughnut shop. Luckily Oscar’s was there too! We may not have been the usual clients at this cafe, serving what I would estimate to be 99% locals, but the staff was friendly, and helpful. The portions were generous, the food was good, and that latte might have saved my life. 10/10 Oscar’s, but I can only leave 5 stars. Thank you!

03/02/2025: Staff could use a quick training in customer service. Not a shred of enthusiasm. Any questions answered with a single word mumble. Food was reasonable but servicexa bit chaotic with folks not knowing which Q to be in. It wasn't busy yet the three worthies behind the counter made it more problematic than it needed to be. I know they're all very young. However, a smile would go a long way here.

23/01/2025: Wouldn’t eat here again! The staff had no manners (no “please” after telling me how much I owed or “thank you” when I paid), the food is ridiculously overpriced and the cafe itself is dirty and untidy. This could be such a lovely cafe based on it’s location but it needs more investment and someone on the floor managing it.
