27/05/2026: Wasn’t aware of this gem until I was passing through and was pleasantly surprised with the wide ranch of goods for sale. Plenty of pick and mix and other produce. Staff were friendly and helpful.

23/05/2026: Really fantastic little shop. Everything you need and it's all organic and locally sourced where possible. Plus their essentials pricing model is great for making good food more accessible. Fantastic friendly staff, I come here every week for years and I wouldn't have it any other way, I love this shop dearly!

07/03/2026: Was welcomed whole heartedly by staff, Kate in particular when I landed in with buggy and a fussy baby. Great service, lots of space if you have buggies/luggage etc. and staff were very accommodating and friendly. Go raibh maith agaibh!

31/07/2025: Stopped for a coffee while I had a meeting, staff were very nice, coffee was decent and had a little treat. It’s a big enough space that you can find a quiet spot to work and have a coffee.

25/11/2025: Ill start with the positives, the food was amazing. I must say props to the chef. I had a fabulous and generously portioned meal for 9 the star is for the food as everything else went terribly. Following my graduation my family of 9 persons went to this hotel to enjoy a family meal. The first issue is in regards to building maintence. The dad cut through his trousers and his leg on a sharp protruding piece of metal acting as a box cover. You can see from the images attached that the cover is missing 2 rivents and is only secured in the middle. My dad brought this to the managers attention who came over to our table halfway through our meal dispiting it with him. He did offer to reduce the price of the meal by 15% however the suit was bought only that morning and that wouldnt cover the cost of a replacement pair of trousers. My dad explained that he didnt want ot have the argiment at the table while trying to enjoy the meal but the manager continued then offering 50€ off (which was less then 15% of our bill...) He said the general manager will be in touch and took our details so we are awaiting a call. We were initally sat at a high stoll table, we asked to swap to a lower table which was done for us no problem as my grandmother was unable to sit at the higher stool due to them not having back rests. We asked a girl who explained it was her fist day if we could mood and she went to ask another person. After about 5 minutes of talking and looking at us another memeber of the wait staff came over and said we could move. There was a bit of a wait for the starters and mains but nothing too extreme we were happy enough to wait. The same lady who moved us was quite rude when we were enquiring about the startes. The menu here has a "Lighter Dishes" section, we asked if that was there starter section and she clarified this to us in a way as if to say we were stupid. "Yeah... thats the starters, is there another quesiotn?". Desserts took quite some time to be brought our. We ordered 3 desserts as the generous portion sizes had us full up. They took 35 minutes to be brought out. I wonder if they were milking the cows in the back to make the cream. At the end of the meal the bill came out and didnt match the prices on the menu at all. Ive attached images of both their menu and the prices on our bill. We were too tired and warm at this point to bother arguing as the lady taking our bill was the same lady who had been rude earlier. The final kick in the teath was the phrasing of their tips. Menu states groups over 8 have gratuity of 10% included however on the bill it is down as suggested even though it is mandatory. Its only a small thing but it added insult to ingury. Previous vists to this place have been nice. Once i was sushed while entering their upstiars returaunt however I was apologised too after bringing it the the managers attention. I love the locaiton and food here but it has really given me a bad tatse now. I dont think me or my family will return which is a shame because we love their pizzas and come rather often. UPDATE No contact from a manager as promised. Cowboy Buisness people operating in Barna. Anyone looking for a place to stay or eat - do not. Plenty of better options in Galway. Avoid this dump like the plague Update again No hope in getting any help. Management have not contacted and when calling say they have no idea what I’m on about. Avoid at all costs. Update again, years later: I still email from time to time and yet no one there cares. I have not been back since (despite being a regular before) and always suggest for people to avoid it like the plague.

03/03/2026: Delivrry took around 40 mins delivery guy was friendly and food was amazing

28/02/2026: €84 worth of an order. An hour and a half for delivery with 3 items missing. Phoned up and was offered credit or wait and we'll come back with the missing items. No apology. Shambles.

17/01/2026: Was surprised to see Google maps bringing me to a coffee place in an industrial estate but was pleasantly surprised. Staff were lovely and had my coffee ready quickly. Would definitely come back for lunch/breakfast.

12/04/2026: The local is always a good spot to shelter from the bad weather or bask in the sunshine in the beer garden. I added the menu since the new owners took over in March 26 in photos. Changes include pool table open which adds a great energy and atmosphere. New TVs showing more variety of sky sports. The summer season will still enjoy a pizza which can be eaten anywhere on site either inside or in the beer garden. Markets are thankfully still continuing. Next door over 18s area still the same. Only big change, sadly the chipper is gone and will be replaced with a small 'convenience store' with the larger supermarket in the old dance hall due in the Autumn after summer season '26 comes to a close. Pub Menu may also get a bit of a shake up then. Friendly staff and lovely fire as usual.

06/04/2026: The food is atrocious. Didn’t think it was possible to get any worse from previous ownership & they have done it. Stay clear.

05/06/2026: To whom it may concern, The afor mentioned establishment has been the most unpleasant and unsatisfactory restaurant I have attended since the opening of all restraunts and bars after covid restrictions. The general ethos and atmosphere that once was the almighty graingers has now become a stale, shambolic, impersonal environment. In addition to this, I was served a bald old man to which I found was obnoxious and rude. I feel the old Grainger's experience has been overthrown by the commercial online bookings and inflated price of pints. As I perused the menu I was shocked and apalled to see the price of a simple pint of Guinness to be the enormous amount of 5.90. It is clear to me, 1884 has been making these tough times even tougher profiting off us working class pub goers. The general feeling received on my end was unwelcoming and uncomfortable. After seeing many spaces free in the front dining area we were ushered to the rear section to be hidden from the general public. I felt possibly this was due to my age and casual dress in comparison to the well dressed and middle aged clientele.

07/06/2026: A no frills pub. A typical old fashioned English pub with plenty of characters. We've been in a fair few times as a couple despite not living in Bury, and chatted to regulars no problem. The drinks prices are really reasonable. It does attract an older crowd as there are plenty of TVs with horse racing on etc. The staff have always been engaging and we've always been served quickly. Think along the lines of a Last Orders pub and you'll get ehat l mean.

08/05/2026: Great pub, football on TV, great pint of carling at a very reasonable price, barmaid was friendly & great at her job serving me straight away, I'm not from bury but everytime I come to bury will always make visit to this pub.

29/03/2026: We called in to this cafe in the search of homemade pasties, Catherine greeted us warmly and we had a sample of the delicious homemade food, we ended up buying extra to take home it was so good ! Delightful little place we'll worth a visit , I was only sorry we couldn't have tried even more of the food on display. Perfect establishment.

03/11/2025: Went with my partner on Saturday (1/11) for some warm beverages. She bought the Matcha with a pump of vanilla and I went with the Mocha. Both drinks were terrible. The matcha was weak, and we could tell they used a poor quality matcha to make the drink. My mocha tasted burnt, and it was overall just horrible. We went back and asked for them to redo the drinks, which they did, and they were still undrinkable. Such a disappointment because we paid almost 12e for both, and that's not cheap! You need to hire better baristas that know how to make good coffee.

29/10/2025: Long-time local customer. The new layout looks lovely....but the service is now utterly chaotic (partly due to kiosk screen ordering). And the coffee has become soooo watery. Beware that you need to ask in person for your chocolate if ordering at the kiosk screen. The poor staff are now harangued altogether
