03/03/2026: Unfortunately I'm unable to rate this venue as when we arrived it was closed. The bar is open but food is only served Thursday thru w/end. While we appreciate that customer is quiet this time of the year, it's not really too much to expect the information on line to be updated. So disappointed

07/02/2026: Went in last night no tabel booked no problem had one of the best steak I've had in years .Been here few times in last year and everytime food is 100 percent perfect staff very helpful and your not rushed . See you all soon...

29/03/2026: Came here with a friend and our kids. Some of the staff was hostile and unfriendly, gave us a table and then said the table has to be back soon if we are just having drinks. After complaining, was told that the new policy is 30 mins for drinks and 1 hour if you're having food. Absolute disgrace, very unwelcoming especially when you're out for a cuppa with your mammy friends and little kids. It'll be one thing if we were finished drinking our coffees but my friend was still drinking hers and the waiter came over and said he needs the table and he can put her coffee into a takeaway cup, considering there was lots of empty tables it was a joke. Even the tables next to us were shocked by the fact we were asked to leave while only coming in, and told us to just stay and not worry about what was said. Unfortunately we were just so disappointed, at that stage just wanted to leave. Awful service! Editing after owner reply: Male waiter knows exactly what incident this was. Please look at cameras on that day, and see that the issue was raised on the way out the front door to the male waiter (think he is the supervisor) in the cafe and he clearly said it is the restaurant policy to have 30 mins for coffees and 1 hour for food, and didn't apologise, just said if we want we can make a complaint to the owner. A bit late when we were already told to leave and also had a small baby with us, very inconvenient and horrible situation to be in. I wouldn't mind if the coffees were actually drank but when the waiter tells you to put it into a takeaway cup and go it's a different story. Only the man next to us said to stay and drink them (he was a customer) we would have left earlier.

15/11/2025: I stayed here for 2 nights while doing a course at the nearby sauna Bosca Beatha. Very comfortable beds for a good night's sleep and the food is also amazing. I had the steak, venison, lamb and chicken wings. Everything was superb but the lamb & chicken wings would be my 2 favourites. Breakfast was lovely as well and it was a very reasonable price per night too. Thanks

11/11/2025: Stopped here for lunch after a drive through the Wicklow Mountains. The stove was burning whichfelt welcoming. Good selection for lunch and everything we had was well prepared and presented

26/10/2025: It was good but some food items were left out from a plate. We did the "test menu" option and some items present in the plate for one person were not included for the other person. The devil is in the detail and it was missed. Waiting staff were gentle and kind. Appreciate it. A couple of favorites in photos.

22/04/2026: Recently had our daughter’s christening. Food was high quality served by staff who showed not just a high level of detail but also made you feel welcome and looked after. We had a set menu for approx 50 people with a great variety of choice high quality food in a function area upstairs which we had to ourselves We would highly recommend this venue for any special occasion or if your looking for good food in a high quality establishment

12/04/2026: The food was INCREDIBLE! I had the pasta carbonara and my husband had the stir fry. The kids pasta and goujons were also great. Highly recommend the fried mushrooms too! Dennis was a great server, very attentive and polite! Freddie was also exceptional! Thank you!

03/04/2026: Food was ok, building is nice, but their rules about cancellation and how much you have to order left a bad impression. Staff didn't feel very welcoming compared to any other restaurant we visited in Ireland. On the day of our booking a member of our party wasn't feeling well so we considered cancelling, however the restaurant charges €50 per person if a reservation is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice so we went anyway as it would otherwise be a huge waste of money. The restaurant has a minimum order of one main course per person. With one person not feeling well and others not particularly hungry we considered sharing a couple of dishes and starters but staff re-confirmed that there was a minimum of one main per person or two starters per person. We ultimately got 4 mains, a single side to share, and a couple of glasses of wine bringing the bill to €169. Bit overpriced considering the dishes were were mostly just the meat and not much veg and no side included, and definitely a lot for a meal we would have preferred not to attend had we been able to cancel. Note that €50 per person to cancel would have been significantly more than our actual bill, which I think demonstrates how unreasonable that is for a cancellation charge. Overall we felt a little unwelcome (possibly due to us asking about minimum orders) and that staff were a bit pushy with trying to get us to buy bread, starters, sides, as if trying to get us to spend more money as opposed to just checking if we actually wanted something. The cancellation/minimum order rules bothered us. Bread cost €5.50 where most other restaurants we visited on our trip had included it for the table for free. The menu says "No cancellations or substitutions" and "We do not split bills" which makes it feel like despite their slightly higher than average prices they are strict and unwilling to make any effort to accommodate customers. Positives: Nice building inside and out. As it was my birthday they did provide a little birthday scoop of ice cream with a candle. We also noticed that they kept our water topped up throughout the meal.

02/04/2026: Honestly so disappointed Wanted to treatment today to be left disappointed and disgusted that your chef can think this is acceptable to serve and be charged 12,50 for a cesar wrap with goujons cheese and fatty rubbery bacon and a few oven chips

30/03/2026: Lovely cafe in the garden centre, was busy but we were seated after a short wait. Food was tasty and fresh and good value. A lovely place to sit for lunch.

17/04/2026: Absolute dirt bags after taking over the Holy Cross bar/restaurant in Butlerstown , Waterford. We booked the big function room in January for a communion tomorrow (April 18th)for around 40 people. We had a few discussions with the manager Justin and other staff over the time period since January in regards to what food we would require and definite numbers. We went out there today to get the room organised with balloons and a few other bits and were told by the owner Gareth McCarthy that our booking for the big function room was cancelled and we were to be moved to a much smaller room . An absolutely disgusting way to treat customers who have been going there regularly for years when the Bohill family ran a great business and treated customers with respect and decency. Clearly the new owner hasn't a clue on the meaning of either 😡

12/04/2026: Love meal here last week to celebrate a 60th. Great food and a suberb waitress in Tara. She was quick, professional and funny. She was just great. My fish and chips was just scrummy.

23/03/2026: Not a bad spot, food is reasonable, prices are ok too. Parking is on street. It is a bit dark inside, but it's not a problem. I had veg soup (which was very nice) with a Caesar salad and chips. Portion size was very big. Staff are chatty and friendly, it tends to get busier in the evenings with families coming in for food. I will certainly return.

09/03/2026: Good food and great craic at the bar. We were touring the Wild Atlantic Way and needed somewhere to stop for the night and grab a bite to eat. The Merry Monk was friendly, welcoming, and great value. A perfect spot if you’re passing through and looking for good food and a relaxed atmosphere.
