The fish and chips came out crisp, golden, and properly fried — the kind of thing that reminds you how good bar food can be when people still give a damn. And of course, a pint of Guinness — dark, creamy, perfectly settled. It’s the punctuation mark at the end of a meal that doesn’t try to impress, only to satisfy. Lags Bar isn’t chasing trends. It’s feeding people. And that’s something worth sitting down for.

12/12/2025: Four of us had food here the other day.I really enjoyed my trio of fish.It was so fresh.The others thought the food was just ok,except the chowder which was described as poor. At the end of the night I asked the barman for a lge bottle of white lemonade.It cost €5 for a 1.25 litre.I thought this was a bit dear and he said well I can always keep it and make even more money selling dashes(I thought that was a little smart)Apart from him the staff were really nice.All the girls serving behind the bar and serving the tables were really good,made sure you were looked after and checked if you needed anything.They were also helpful in telling me about the area. Next day Because of the barman and the quality of the food we had something to eat elsewhere.While the same price,the food was much better.The place is fine for a pint and a chat with the staff(the friendly ones) but Im sorry we forked out over €200 for food and drinks when we would have gotten better nearby.

12/01/2026: My first Irish fish and chips and they were amazing. I wasn't a fan of the chips ( my preference, not their fault) but they did have good flavor, the cod was amazing!

It also has the feel of a cozy pub if you're with people you know, but if you're alone, you won't get any conversation. Not even if you're sitting at the bar; the staff don't seem particularly welcoming to tourists. Perhaps the bartender wasn't in the mood today; during quieter moments, he leaned against the bar rather than chatting.

The staff were fantastic to deal with from start to finish, so friendly, helpful and professional, especially Jazmine who dealt with our booking from the start and then Shane on the night.
