The Lord Edward
Dublin
14/12/2025: Old, cosy traditional pub, with genuinely nice staff (shout out to young dark haired bartender who had the patience of a saint). Great buzzy atmosphere. Will call again!
05/12/2025: The Lord Edward made it onto my “Dublin Pub Crawl” list thanks to a bartender at the Guinness Gravity Bar who swore it had a great pint of Guinness and insisted we check out the upstairs. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the upstairs was closed. Still no idea what is up there or why it was recommended.
This is a small pub with a unique bar layout and plenty of age behind it. And by “age,” I mean it has not seen a remodel in a very, very long time. The men’s room is basically just a wall with a drain on the floor (which I found highly amusing), and according to the bartenders, the women’s bathroom used to be a broom closet that was converted once women were allowed into pubs. That alone tells you everything you need to know about how much this place has changed over the years. Very authentic and cool in its own way.
We stopped in late on a Thursday night. The crowd was wrapping up, so we managed two rounds before last call. The bartenders signal last call the old school way, by flicking the lights on and off. Gave me a good laugh.
As for the pint… it was okay. One bartender knew what he was doing and poured a proper Guinness. The other poured it the way Americans do when they have no idea what they are doing, and he did it consistently.
I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Lord Edward and got plenty of laughs out of the whole experience. The company was great and the pub absolutely has character. Now, if we can only get that one bartender on board with pouring Guinness correctly…
We still want to know what is upstairs.

Achill Cliff House Hotel & Restaurant
Keel-dooagh
16/10/2025: We had originally booked for six, but one of our guests couldn’t make it. Despite the change, the Owner was incredibly accommodating. We dined in the hotel restaurant and had a meal for five, all different dishes and every single dish was excellent! Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, I would highly recommend a visit to their restaurant but book ahead. Overall we had a great weekend on the island and the Achilles Cliff House Hotel was definitely a contributing factor.
30/09/2025: Couldn’t fault our stay in the Achill Cliff house. Bedrooms were big and spacious, beautiful views, lovely and clean. Breakfast was amazing, tried everything throughout our stay. Would recommend the smoked salmon, delicious and the portions were huge ! The hotel itself is located in a very handy spot for the Achill Golf Club, or the beach. Would definitely stay here again. Staff were lovely and very welcoming.

02/01/2026: This was the first branch I ever visited, and honestly, the view upstairs is unbelievable! The florist outside is gorgeous, and between the garden area and the market with fresh bakery and food options, it’s a lovely place to wander around.
The clothes section is a bit limited, but overall it’s a great experience. definitely recommend adding a healthier food section and a professional barista to really complete the experience. Still a grand spot and well worth a visit.
01/01/2026: Beautiful place to meet up with friends or family for coffee.

Danny Minnies
Anagaire
17/02/2026: Took our daughter there for a 21st birthday treat. Our 2nd visit but first overnight stay. She has additional needs and was made to feel like a princess. Had scones and coffee/tea in the afternoon, while we waited for the rest of our party. Pre dinner drinks by the fire. We had a very good meal and returned to the bar area where we sat and drank until bedtime. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good. I had the full irish, daughter had pancakes with lots of fruit and honey. I also had melon and was too stuffed for breakfast scones.
Our daughter was able to get upstairs with help but had to come down on her bottom, so if you can't manage stairs be aware.
Overall, a very good experience, one we enjoyed immensely.
31/12/2025: I’ve been going to this restaurant for almost 30 years, it’s a beautiful location and the food is outstanding, highly recommended

Ryan's Sandymount House
Dublin
13/03/2026: I have been going to Sandymount house regularly since 1992. I used to work in Quinnsworth in 1992/93/94. I enjoyed the pub especially when Leinster Rugby , Irish soccer and Irish rugby play at Lansdowne or Aviva. The bar men past/present are very friendly, and courteous. I recommend this beautiful pub. Top notch pub.
07/03/2026: A clean, traditional clean pub that favours locals and not passing trade. Despite this, the drink is decent.
