02/05/2026: Tucked into the wild poetry of Ireland’s west coast, this Michelin-starred gem in Doolin delivered a dining experience that felt less like a meal and more like a beautifully choreographed love story. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere hummed with quiet elegance, the kind that doesn’t need to announce itself. Then came the venison, and truly, it deserves its own standing ovation. Presented with theatrical grace, it stood poised like a bride beneath a chuppah, a culinary ceremony in full swing. Each bite was rich, tender, and deeply expressive of the land, as though the surrounding hills had whispered their secrets directly into the dish. The asparagus risotto followed, glowing with freshness. It arrived adorned with a delicate bouquet of edible flowers, like spring had decided to dress up for dinner. The flavors were vibrant yet comforting, a perfect balance of earthiness and brightness, each forkful unfolding like a small celebration. Service throughout the evening was flawless. Not stiff or overly formal, but warm, intuitive, and genuinely joyful. The kind of service that anticipates your needs before you even realize them yourself. And then, just when we thought the evening had reached its peak, it offered us one more unforgettable moment. When we asked about arranging a taxi, the owner himself came over, introduced himself with effortless charm, and insisted on driving us. Not just anywhere, but to catch the Irish sunset melting into the Atlantic beside the Cliffs of Moher. It felt like being handed the final, perfect note of a symphony. Some restaurants serve great food. This one creates memories that linger long after the plates are cleared.

06/07/2026: As with previous posts, we waited for 1-1.5hrs for our food. Staff should update customers on where their order is at. The food when it arrived was terrific.

15/07/2026: Seven of us had dinner and drinks in the Brock Inn yesterday evening. Everyone agreed dinner was exceptional from starters to dessert. Servers very friendly and professional. Toilets spotless. Never disappoints. Thank you Brock Inn staff.

22/07/2026: Had the Surf and Turf for Dinner. Service was good. Wine was a good recommendation for the meal. Shrimp tasted great and perfect temperature. However the steak lacked taste, it was cooked perfectly (medium rare) but a bit cool upon delivery. Mashed potatoes also cool on delivery. This could have been due to how busy they were. I would definitely try again.

17/06/2026: This Hotel was absolutely outstanding, in a class of it's own. Seriously to die for. The rooms are beautiful set out. The restaurant with as the oak furniture was so tastefully decorated, it's own little coffee shop. The staff were a pleasure to be around. The Highlands Hotel just kept giving and giving. The food was outstanding, my favourite meal there was the mussels in a tomato and herb sauce. The bar manager Tuffer (Christopher) was superb add to to the organisation, a very knowledgeable chap who knows how to run a bar with ease. I would visit the Highlands in a heartbeat and will be going again soon, very soon. Glenties the town is a biscuit tin town. Idyllic with the most beautiful views that stop you in your tracks to take it all in. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

18/06/2026: Kenmare has a wide selection of restaurants, and we decided to go to Casey's. It was a great decision, as we were very pleasantly surprised. The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant.

22/06/2026: I tried to play golf with my GF, having booked 2 lessons slots and after showing up at the golf shop, we were told that we must be at the wrong place and the employee sent us to another golf club on the other side of Portmarnock. There, we were told that there is no way we're at the right place and were sent back to the golf shop. The employee was very unprofessional and demeaning, looking at us like we were crazy to think that we could play golf when we had our bookings confirmed. We tried to make the most of a bad situation, but the employee was very unaccommodating and acting like he was better than anyone else. We only wanted to play golf at a place where we had our time slots booked and confirmed. The employee did not feel bad for them having such a deceitful and scammy golf booking system. I felt bad after my interaction with the employee, that we wasted our time and money going there, and how our date was ruined because of it.

19/05/2026: A good reminder that the rankings of hotels are based on facilities available, not actual quality or service. Both (both!!) pram lifts were out of order making navigating the hotel with a pram very difficult. Staff did not help with luggage or baby pram. There is no dedicated greeter for breakfast so everybody who comes down just waits aimlessly until somebody notices them Every so often you'll notice chipped paint, worn carpet, stained cutlery or other signs of low maintenance. (€260 per night by the way). The shower is a cramped prefabricated plastic installation. Portmarnock hotel is one that survives on the reputation of the golf course, but outside of that legacy there is much better value and better luxury guest experiences you can get for your money in Ireland, and in Dublin.

10/07/2026: We had a fantastic family dinner at House of Plates in Castlebar and it exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the restaurant had a warm, intimate atmosphere that immediately made for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. The dining room is beautifully presented and strikes a perfect balance between being elegant without feeling overly formal. The food was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening. Every dish was beautifully presented with real attention to detail, and the flavours throughout the meal were exceptional. You can tell there is genuine care and creativity behind every plate. We especially loved the baked cod, which was cooked perfectly and packed with flavour, and the steak, which was tender, rich and expertly prepared. The scallops were outstanding, cooked beautifully and complemented by fantastic accompaniments, while the duck was another memorable course that everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed. Every member of our family commented on how much they loved their meal, which says a lot when everyone orders something different. One thing that really stood out was the generosity. The portion sizes were excellent, particularly considering the quality of the food. We were also pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful chef’s treats that arrived throughout the meal, adding an extra touch of luxury and making the whole experience feel special. The additional side dishes served with the mains were another unexpected bonus that we hadn’t anticipated and were very much appreciated. The wine pairings listed on the menu deserve a special mention. They were exceptionally well chosen and complemented each course perfectly, enhancing the flavours without overpowering them. It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into creating a complete dining experience rather than simply serving great food. The value for money is remarkable. A menu offering two courses for €55 or three courses for €62 is incredibly competitive considering the quality of the ingredients, the presentation, the additional chef’s surprises and the overall standard of cooking. It genuinely feels like you’re receiving a fine dining experience at a very fair price. If I was to offer any constructive feedback, it would only be on a couple of very small points. The lamb was slightly more cooked than we would have preferred, and while all of the staff were polite, the two younger members of the team could perhaps bring a little more enthusiasm and warmth to the service. These were very minor observations and certainly didn’t take away from what was otherwise a wonderful evening. Overall, House of Plates is a fantastic addition to Castlebar’s dining scene. Exceptional food, beautiful presentation, generous portions, excellent wine pairings, thoughtful little extras throughout the meal and outstanding value for money all combine to create a memorable dining experience. We left already talking about what we’d order on our next visit, which is always the best sign. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend House of Plates to anyone looking for a special meal, and we’ll definitely be back.

Her friendly and welcoming attitude made our experience even better. But to be honest the whole team was so welcoming! We would definitely recommend coming here anytime! 😊
