30/01/2026: Disappointing experience. While I was at the nail salon next door getting my nails done, my daughter who is 2,5 years old needed to use the bathroom. The staff at the nail salon told me that they share a restroom with the café and that I could go there. The café was about to close but still had staff inside. I knocked on the door while standing there with my two children, and a staff member looked at me through the window but didn’t open the door or ask if I needed help. It felt very rude and dismissive. I wouldn’t knock on a closed business for no reason—especially with young children. A little basic kindness and communication would have gone a long way.

24/01/2026: Atmosphere is really nice and the location is really convenient. Sadly that's where the pros end. While food were good in quality, it totally lacks in taste. The protein ( Chicken , Lamb ) were not seasoned in anyway with a very bland taste. The combination with other ingredients made the Chicken burger some what tasteful , however the combination for the lamb burger was totally bland. In addition to that with the price , the burgers should accompany fries or any other plated snacks which does not. As the price is purely for the burger, it's not worth. Had to order fries separately. All together, the meal was over priced without much taste.

25/01/2026: The food, tho really good and impressive, had some “add-ons” that were in the way of the dishes being perfect. Onion tart was overpowered by the amount of goat cheese and steak had a very very sweet jam. There was a lot of room condensation - water dripping down the walls and poor acoustics, which was a bit off putting.

16/10/2025: We were visiting family and went there for something to eat. From getting there it felt like we were welcome. We got our table and Danni Kennedy served us. She was very welcoming and friendly. It just felt that she could not do enough for us. The food was excellent and very tasty.

23/02/2026: Excellent value for money! We had two starters (seafood chowder) and were very satisfied. The fish was fresh and delicious. Guinness is €5.50. The garlic bread was a little lacking in garlic. The place is heated by a wood fire! Great for a stopover.

10/01/2026: First time dining at Matt the Thresher. Gorgeous decor and vibes and lovely staff. The service was excellent and the drinks were delicious. The night we were in was a little crowded and there were some very drunk, very loud tables around is which somewhat spoiled the atmosphere at times. My wife and I don't eat meat which somewhat limited the menu, she had the much lauded scampi and I ordered the vegetarian offering which was a squash gnocchi. The pasta dish was incredible, light, rich and delicious and a perfect portion size. The scampi, though very tasty, didn't quite live up to the hype or the nearly 40euro price tag. Definitely a good eat and a beautiful spot, but there are places to get an equally fantastic meal for half the price, so I can't give it the 5 star.

20/02/2026: This was only a short bus journey or about a 15 minute walk from the hotel we were staying at (West County Hotel) we fancied something local instead of going into the city. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, everything was explained to us when we arrived, specials etc.. it was just a cosy, homely atmosphere. The food was great and lots of it too.

19/02/2026: Incredible service. Food was ok. Got there tiktok famous chicken dish. Was drry overcooked and quite chewy, very heavy on mayo. Also got chownie to take away very odd tasted more like ginger pudding imo, not what i expected or wanted which was a brownie, not a sponge dessert. Service was great though best place ive been for service. Would like to go back and try something different tho. Bathrooms could be better very pokey but goregously decorated and im sure a great night out with company.

28/08/2025: Really bad drop off from this place. Was previously my favourite space for lunch in Dublin. Unfortunately with massive price increases and a drop in quality it’s not worth it. Ordered the spicy Cajun sandwich and noticed they stopped putting any sauce on it. 12€ for a dry chicken and cheese sandwich is frankly a rip off

28/08/2025: I will never visit this place again and you should not, either. However, if you decide to go there, you should definitely double-check your receipt here before paying. First I was charged 25.25 instead of 11.60 but realized only after swiping my card. Then they initiated a refund and charged my card again with the right amount (11.60), so I thought it was OK after all. I only realized on the next day (when the refund arrived) that they decided to "keep the change" and refund only 25.00.

20/09/2025: The pub is a wonderful local spot. Very friendly people and the proprietor , Joe, is very charming. The service was the best we've had yet, in a week in Ireland. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the halibut special and my wife had the organic chicken. Both well presented and tasted amazing. An absolute must stop for anyone looking for a great meal and a lovely pint.
