The best restaurants

09/07/2026: A little gem of a place. If you want well priced great coffee this is the best in the area. There’s an earthy vibe to the place (see photos)and the staff are lovely. It’s great to support a local business too.

01/07/2026: Great place to get coffee. Very efficient service. The coffee is great as well as the cakes and treats. And even better are the staff. Always go out of the way to say hello and ask you how you are. Top service and a great addition to the area.

18/04/2026: The facilities were old, but the beds were comfortable. Also, the receptionist's attitude towards other white people was noticeably different from their attitude towards Asians. It felt like the place was small and there weren't many foreigners there.

16/04/2026: We recently had our son’s Christening in the restaurant in the Sheraton and we were absolutely blown away by the amazing service from the reservation team and the restaurant staff. The reservation team Rachel and Daniel were so quick to respond in emails and had everything organised for us- nothing was an issue! They were so efficient and arranged a lovely menu for our group which was so reasonable. The food we were served was absolutely delicious, everyone was so impressed! Joe, the restaurant manager was amazing- had a designated area for our large group and the table was decorated beautifully for our celebration. Kelly and Daniel were just fabulous servers and so attentive and really lovely to all the children too. It made our day even more special to have been looked after so well by these lovely people, we are so grateful to have had such a wonderful day. We can’t thank them enough and will definitely be back and book any future parties with them.

26/05/2026: It’s an old hotel but the rooms are nicely refurbished. We ate there 2 nights .the food & service were very good

07/07/2026: Great coffee and selection of books plus the vibe is great. Perfect point to grab a coffee on you in or out of lough lake. Views are amazing and a great spot indeed. Recommended.

02/08/2026: Wow what a wonderful place so welcomming.loads of crack great trad sessions .pub is amazing loadz of room out back for campervan parking 10 euro a night cant go wrong so peaceful at night .i slept great last night.we met gene the owner such a lovely person.stayed 2 nights will deffo b back again cant wait🥳

24/07/2026: We stayed overnight here in our motorhome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Gene, the owner, is a character and a lovely man and his barman Kyle is a really nice lad. It was a Wednesday night and locals and visitors alike played music and sang, the atmosphere is very good and welcoming. The Guinness was first class, Gene even told me to pull my own pint as he was busy, lol. I would highly recommend a visit here if you're anywhere near Carrick on Shannon, it's only 4.5km outside the town. The pub opens at 8pm and the music sessions are on a Wednesday and Saturday nights although I believe there is also music on other nights. There was about 10 motorhomes parked up for the night and the carpark is far enough in from the road that it's nice and quiet. There's an honesty box, a drinking water tap and a book library for motorhome visitors.

12/06/2026: As long coffe is nice, service is super slow. I ordered extra hot coffe, because is never hot enough. And I got the same. I refused wait for another one because takes ages, so I just asked to top up with hot water. Girls are nice, but totally lost and slow. I think I will start avoid this place because of unbelievable waiting time.

09/06/2026: It was an excellent stay! The receptionist Lauriana was super friendly and very helpful. I didn't particularly like my room, and she was extremely helpful finding me a better option with a great view.

It is a very nice, quiet hotel that provides a perfectly relaxing environment. ​ ​Our room was incredibly comfortable and featured nice, cozy beds that ensured a great night's sleep. ​The reception staff were absolutely superb—welcoming, efficient, and very helpful. ​It is in a highly convenient location, making it easy to get around the area. ​ ​Breakfast: They serve a decent breakfast with a good variety to start your day off right. ​ ​With its combination of comfort, great service, and convenience, the Viking Hotel is a wonderful choice when staying in Waterford. We would happily stay here again!

17/07/2026: We visited today for lunch, and we were shocked by the price compared to the portion size. I got the turkey and ham. One small slice of turkey, one half a slice of ham, and not even a teaspoon of stuffing in the middle. Came out with four pieces of roasted veg, two scoops of mash, and just a tiny little bit of gravy. I had to request extra gravy, had to request extra potatoes. The chicken Kiev my partner got was the size of a child's hand. It was absolutely tiny. Barely any garlic in it. She got the garlic sauteed spuds with it. They were basically the crispy bits from the bottom of a bag of chips. Food was also mildly warm at best. Wasn't even warm, was closer to cold than it was to warm. Kids burger, fine, very pricey. Kids spaghetti bolognese, €14.50 for, again, tiny, terrible portion. We normally go to the Valley Inn. We said we'll give the Monasterboice Inn for a change. We will definitely not be going back, unfortunately. Staff were very friendly though

17/07/2026: Had breakfast and evening meal here today. Very busy place just off M1 near Drogheda. Food was very nice portions not huge but adequate. There is a wait here particularly in the evening as it is really popular. But very comfortable and the staff are very friendly and it is worth the wait. Would definitely go here again.

31/03/2026: I absolutely have hated lamb until I had it here their stew and the salmon salad are absolutely delicious. The lamb stew is the best I have ever tasted. Does not taste like lamb. It was delicious. And the smoked salmon salad is also delicious. 1000%recommended.

16/07/2026: A great place to have lunch before or after the tour.

14/07/2026: We arrived, were made wait 45 minutes for a chicken wrap and fish and chips, we then mentioned where is our food and it appeared 10 minutes later. The fish and chips were cold, and the chicken in the wrap was chewy and very hard eat. We left our food as we could not eat that, we mentioned it to the staff however she didn’t seem to be too bothered about what our issues. Such a shame because we were so excited to come here and essentially spent €45 on nothing.
