27/08/2026: They close before closing time. We went to buy coffee at 4.45. Coffee machines turned off. Would only make hot chocolate. Closing time is 5pm.

05/08/2026: A few months ago I came into Walker 1781 to order lunch in a party of four. We chose to dine in this establishment based on its positive reviews. However, our experience was anything but positive. My first issue with our dining experience was our service. We waited a significant time for our orders to be taken only to wait even longer for our food despite it not being very busy. We had to remind our server of our order as we thought they may have forgotten about us given the length of our wait. My second grievance was with the portion sizes we received. I ordered the bacon and mushroom pasta which I can only describe as laughable with roughly 14 pieces of penne pasta and very little bacon or mushroom. A fellow guest ordered the vegetable curry with a portion of chips which also came in a child’s bowl along with roughly ten chips in total. However, my biggest grievance was with the final member of our party. As the only vegetarian option was the curry she asked our server if it would be possible to simply order an adult portion of mashed potato, vegetables and gravy. Our server assured us that this would be fine. What she received can only be described as a joke, one small scoop of mash and two small pieces of tenderstem broccoli. At first we thought there was a mistake and that the kitchen thought the order was for a baby bowl of food which is understandable. However, upon speaking to our server and asking for an adult portion she later returned with a second a small scoop of mash and four small pieces of tenderstem broccoli, still fit for a small child and the plate now cold. At this point we had all finished our tiny dishes while my fellow guest only began eating her now cold child’s portion of food. Finally, when settling the bill we were then somehow still charged a significant fee for this tiny cold dish. Needless to say we were most unsatisfied with our meal and service. Why inform a customer that you can complete their order if unable to do so? Especially when given a very specific request. We were then forced to visit a takeaway after this as we were so hungry. Save your money and dine elsewhere.

28/05/2026: We unexpectedly broke down right in front of this pub, and what could have been a stressful situation turned into a genuinely positive experience thanks to the incredibly kind owner. He checked on us regularly while we waited for the tire service and made sure we were okay the whole time. He even offered that we could take our time to explore the town while he kept an eye on our car. The outdoor seating area in front of the pub was also really comfortable and inviting, making the whole situation much more pleasant. Truly outstanding hospitality — 10/10, highly recommended!

09/09/2026: Lovely café with a beautiful interior and a really nice atmosphere. We had breakfast here and were very happy with both the food and the portions — everything was fresh, tasty and definitely not small! The café itself is beautifully decorated, with a stylish and cosy interior that makes you want to stay a little longer. A great place for a delicious and satisfying breakfast. Would definitely recommend!

09/07/2026: Toastie Cafe is amazing! Everything was incredibly delicious, especially the perfect, crispy toasts. The staff was super pleasant, and the matcha was absolutely sensational. Highly recommend!

03/06/2026: Overall, the hotel is nice. However , the location isn’t ideal if you want to be within walking distance of anything fun or cool. It’s on a golf course so it’s very relaxing , but boring. As far as the rooms, super outdated and inconsistent. We booked two rooms, one of them came with water and all the towels you would need. The other room didn’t have any water , and only two towels were provided. If you have to stay here in a pinch it’s okay, but I wouldn’t book here again. Not horrible, just not my favorite.

01/06/2026: We booked a last minute stay directly through the website as it looked on the surface to be excellent value; family of 4 for one night, bank holiday weekend, with breakfast for under €150, and access to the pool, which was our must have for visiting with 2 kids who love a pool. Lobby area is stunning, wide open and beautiful chandelier. We had a bit of a wander around and found that the ballroom area also was beautiful. It does feel more like a golf course with a hotel. We ate dinner in the bar with the kids; service was slow as it was very full with what seemed like both locals and hotel guests (positive sign) but not enough staff, but we got there in the end, and it seemed decently priced as well, which is good because the restaurant part did seem a bit excessively priced, and without the bar menu option, we absolutely would have eaten elsewhere. Breakfast the next morning was also good; not a massive selection, the usual fry up, 3 cereals, toast and pastries, but all good. The coffee was not good though, that needs addressing, as it was clearly granule coffee, and definitely too many granules, more like tar. A couple of things werent perfect with the fry up - fried eggs were all overdone, tomatoes a bit underdone, but overall it was good and filled a hole. The bread selection and sausages and bacon in particular were lovely. The pool in very convenient, all within the hotel itself, with changing rooms, showers, large pool, kids pool area, jacuzzi, all in good/great condition, and id go so far as to say the sauna is in excellent condition. The steam room was definitely struggling with the steam element, but it was ok. Kids had a blast. The room itself - this is why its so cheap. We stayed in room 106. Despite all the positives, the food, the pool, the lobby area, the room is a let down. The rooms are old and tired, and need updating. The carpet is musty, the windows old and a bit moldy, and the beds a bit lumpy. There is no air conditioning in the rooms. The bathroom is very tired; mold between tiles, stains in the tub, leak at the toilet. The biggest issue was two silverfish in the bathroom which to find was a big surprise, pointing to that there are probably a lot more. Must be living under the tub. I know how terrible these are to get rid off, but it has to be prioritised. No doubt they will, and I did immediately let the receptionist know, and she was going to get someone to attend to it immediately, but the kids were asleep so said leave it till tomorrow when we check out. The room wasnt clean. Found things under the desk and around the perimeter. I know its always rush rush rush to turn a hotel room around, but more care needs to be had with the rooms. Pics attached of the dirt/dead bug. So a mixed bag; good food, nice lobby, decent location, and Ive stayed in much worse, but to move it back to that next level, it needs a refurbishment of the rooms as soon as possible. The kids were happy and didnt know any better, and we made some great memories, but my experience is 'its fine' rather than 'definitely stay here'.

Everyone was so attentive and welcoming, and a special mention to Milena, who was such a sweetheart and incredibly attentive. She really made our experience even more special! ❤️ The starters were perfect, and the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful — such a lovely place for a date night. ✨ The desserts were incredible! We tried the brownie and the lemon cheesecake, and both were delicious. 🤤 Our main courses were also really, really tasty. The only small thing I would mention is that the steak could have been just a little more tender, but the flavours were fantastic. Overall, a fantastic restaurant with amazing food, a beautiful atmosphere and outstanding service. We had a lovely evening and would definitely come back! ❤️ Thank you, Momento, for such a lovely experience! 🥂✨

15/07/2026: The atmosphere was quite nice, but i have a couple points of improvement, the steak was extremely tough the waiter was very understanding which is good, the mussels were alright but the sauce wasn’t very nice, the crab meal barely had any crab in it at all. If they improve these then this restaurants could be amazing

13/07/2026: We had a wonderful celebratory luncheon at Cullen's at the Cottage to mark my son's engagement during our Ireland trip, complete with a lovely bottle of champagne, which was thoroughly enjoyed. The food was fantastic, and the service was swift and calculated, the kind of perfected service that's subtle, never distracting, yet very noticeable. If you can not stay at Ashford, I highly recommend a dining experience at Ashford Castle. We followed up our lunch with a Hawk Walk at the School of Falconry on site, which was magical! Great memories made!

29/03/2026: We had the most incredible two-night stay at Carrig Country House and can’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, the setting completely won us over — right on the lake with breathtaking views that make it so easy to unwind and switch off. The house itself is full of charm and character, with a warm, cosy atmosphere that feels truly special. Being invited for coffee and homemade cake with biscuits after checking in is a great touch. We were lucky enough to stay in the Presidential Suite, which made the experience even more memorable. The space, comfort, and stunning views were exceptional — it felt like a real treat and the perfect place to relax. What really sets Carrig apart, though, is the hospitality. The team are genuinely welcoming, attentive, and thoughtful, creating a stay that feels personal and effortless. The dining experience was a real highlight. Being welcomed into a cosy sitting room to relax and discuss the menu before being called through to dinner is such a charming, old-world touch — it made each evening feel special. The food itself was outstanding from start to finish, with top-quality ingredients and beautifully presented dishes. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape with incredible food, beautiful surroundings, and truly warm hospitality, this place is a gem. Thank you to Claire, Kevin and the team for everything. We’ll definitely be back.
