17/05/2025: We recently returned to Bastible for the first time since before the pandemic, choosing it as the spot to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately, we left feeling more underwhelmed than impressed. To be clear, the food was good and well-executed, with no dishes we actively disliked. But for a restaurant with such a strong reputation (and a price tag to match), the overall experience fell short in several ways. The biggest letdown was the service. Having worked in hospitality myself and dined at multiple Michelin-starred restaurants both in Dublin and abroad, I had certain expectations. Not for extravagance, but for attentiveness and care. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. Staff seemed disengaged, with minimal explanation or enthusiasm when presenting dishes. The wine pairings were introduced with little context or storytelling, and the sommelier in particular seemed rushed, as if he were trying to get through the evening’s service rather than elevate it. For a bill that came to over €400 for the tasting menu and wine pairing, we expected more than “fine.” There was no sense of occasion, no added effort to make the evening feel even remotely special. We’ve spent far less in unstarred restaurants and left feeling far more satisfied and cared for. In short: if you’re visiting Bastible for the food alone, you’ll likely enjoy it. But if you’re hoping for a full dining experience, one that justifies the price and pedigree, you may want to look elsewhere.

06/05/2025: Just be aware when booking, if a high table comes up, it is more like a bar table, and seats are stools with no backs. It's not v comfortable. Pity. All the food scrumptious.

04/05/2025: One off the best restaurants have been in for a long long time food was top class we had starters and a main course and as a vegetarian it’s very hard to find anywhere local that caters for us ,so was delighted to have heard that the valley inn caters well for vegetarians ,was delighted food was outstanding but along with it the staff were all a joy to be around didn’t matter that they were so busy they all had smile and were very helpful and welcoming definitely recommend this place for food and atmosphere can not wait to return as a regular dinner well done all in the valley inn.

16/04/2025: From the outside the restaurant looks rather small. But when you go in, a different world opens up. The front area is a bar. In the back area there are two large rooms for the restaurant. The waitresses were very friendly and the food was a dream.

11/05/2025: Disappointed by the service here. I asked for a takeaway and was abruptly told I’d need to buy a reusable cup — despite a sign clearly stating takeaway is available. The owner, an older man, was rude and dismissive, complaining that people litter with paper cups. I’m not “everyone” — I came in to support a local business, not be lectured or treated poorly. There’s a big difference between being environmentally conscious and being condescending to paying customers. Sadly, I won’t be returning.

04/05/2025: Best coffee in all of Killarney. Alan Oliver super GAA fan, is the best owner in town. Must visit! Great outdoor seating!

13/05/2025: This is a decent pub, decent pint, decent decor, decent staff. Pretty good. Plus there was a nice atmosphere when we were in. Bizarrely, the toilets are fairly awful, dirty and dank. It’s odd how bad they are compared to everything else.

22/05/2025: One of the best restaurants in Cork! It's extremely affordable for the quality of the food. Don't hesitate to try the mussels; the portion is very large and the quality is excellent. The outdoor tables are heated, which is appreciated.

21/05/2025: The good — Steak was amazing! Just plain, didn’t need the sides. The steam veggies were so good! The bad — Server started strong and was on top of everything, then when it can time for the tab, waited over 30 minutes. Food is subjective. I wasn’t a fan of the greasy fries, chewy fries. Maybe a bad batch that sat out too long? I would recommend this restaurant.

27/04/2025: An amazing experience! I can’t say enough good things about Corley’s Bar. The food was insanely good — every bite was packed with flavor, the lamb is highly recommended. The vibe was relaxed but still felt special, and the staff made us feel totally taken care of. Honestly, one of the best meals I’ve ever had in Ireland. Well done for the whole team! You are all amazing!

27/04/2025: Some of the best service I’ve ever received in rural Ireland from a charismatic crew of staff. From their selection of home made breads, pastries and cakes to their delicious a la carte menu, you’ll be satiated and will want to return again. Also, make sure there’s a designated driver as the Guinness is some of the best in Connaught

10/05/2025: The food was very disappointing, frozen chips and two small pieces of fish with 4 salad leaves and a teaspoon of coleslaw. Wouldn't eat here again. The location is stunning though

17/05/2025: Great experience! This hotel is one of a kind, a beautiful Castle with unique rooms. The two brothers who run the hotel treat you like family. The bar has music, food, and drinks. The restaurant was phenomenal with professional staff. The place has a lively and welcoming feel. During a trip where we traveled to many spots in Ireland, this hotel was a complete gem in the middle of an amazing trip. This place made you feel so welcome. In a world where service and hospitality are no longer the norm, this Staff proves there are still places that value that. I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed this hotel, thier staff, and the town.

14/05/2025: Exceptional environment, cosmopolitan but friendly and efficient staff. The place is pseudo-medieval (it actually dates from the 19th century), a bit kitsch in terms of decor. Overall, a very friendly welcome, everything started well. The website is a bit misleading, because the "five courses dinner" (5-course meal) includes, in addition to the classic starter-main course-dessert, only a trou normand (a small scoop of sorbet) and coffee or tea. The treatment center (spa, massage) that we assume is integrated is actually a separate establishment about a hundred meters from the establishment. The first evening, after dinner, no more cold water in the family's 3 rooms (so no toilet and no shower). This will be restored the next morning, around 9:00, but neither that day nor the next day, the day of our departure, will we receive an explanation or an apology from the management. For an establishment of this standing, this is more than regrettable. I therefore cannot recommend it.
