18/08/2025: Fellow Americans, beware. They may take advantage of you with the currency conversion. I always charge things in euros, and not dollars when offered a choice, but our server did not offer a choice. We just ended up with the ticket in the photo that converted the currency and charged us extra for it. Our service was friendly, although slow on a busy Friday night. The chowder was the best we had all week and the stew was pretty good too. Just pay cash if you go.

26/07/2025: This hotel is well situated in the heart of Killarney and offers relatively convenient parking nearby at the Great Southern hotel. The building's facade and the reception area are quite charming, but unfortunately the positives for us ended there. The rooms are a bit tight (as to be expected from an old building) and the bathroom/plumbing was a little less than perfect, though workable enough if everything else had been good. Unfortunately, there was an intermittent vibrating sound in the wall of our room that the staff of the hotel could not locate and stop, coupled with a gap between the door and floor that let light into the room. This led to two terrible nights of sleep. Upon check-in we were advised that breakfast was included with our reservation but when we went to the breakfast room we were told that it was not included after all and we ended up paying over €40 for some pancakes and a continental breakfast buffet. The room's hairdryer had a concentrator attachment that did not fit the hairdryer (a small point that I wouldn't even mention if it wasn't a good example of how they are trying to provide a great experience, but miss the mark in the details). Travelers should also know that the hotel provides turndown service (nice!) every evening around 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. and they will ring your room's doorbell even if you have the do not disturb sign up, so do not try to shower or nap during that part of the day. The staff is friendly and tries their best, and it's clear that they are trying to provide an elevated level of experience and service, but the basic details were managed so poorly (and couldn't be improved or recompensed) that we would never go back.

09/08/2025: Stopped by for a couple of Americanos to go. The staff indicated that Killarney stopped using disposable cups and that you had to rent a cup for 2 euros each. You can turn in the cup and get your euros back which I did. I was fine with the cup but my wife didn't necessarily care for it.

24/07/2025: Great cappuccino with 3 different plant-based milk options (to pay extra). The scones are excellent! If they considered no single-use plastics for butter and jam everything would be perfect!

21/08/2025: The prawn starter was fantastic. Unfortunately the mains was not as good. The fries were obviously blanched several times and were greasy and yellow. There was senior waiter on duty with an obviously inexperienced waitress who was doing a good job but he made it known she was in training to some if the patrons which was bad form. Everyone starts somewhere so I gave her the tip directly.

05/06/2025: First time to the Dining Room since the restaurant changed hands in recent years. We were on an overnight stay in Castlebar, and having read some great reviews (most notably The Irish Times), I was looking forward to dining there. Not the usual A La Carte menu on offer, and instead there's two set four-course menus to choose from.... we opted for menu offering good selection of fish, poultry and vegetarian dishes. We were warmly greeted by the restaurant manager Shirley and shown to our table. The restaurant was busy for a bank holiday Saturday night and there was a good atmosphere with reasonable sound levels (nothing worse than restaurant full of loud patrons and you can't hear yourself think literally!) Prompt service at the outset - with starters and mains ordered, along with a bottle of the house red (three to choose from). Overall the wine and drinks menu is varied and very reasonably priced. Both of our starters and main courses were - in a word - 'sublime' and we looked forward to tasting their desserts. However, that's where it all turned sour (for want of a better word) because we waited the best part of over 30 minutes to see a dessert menu. It felt like once the dishes for main courses were removed, they forgot we there, as other patrons came and went, and service seemed to be on the ball (many of them appeared to be local diners and were friendly with the manager and staff). When we finally were given a dessert menu, it then took some more time to be served. Overall, I enjoyed my dessert but alas my sister found her dish rather bland and tasteless.....plus it's unacceptable to have to wait nearly 40 mins or more to sample the final course of the evening. Sadly, we didn't think the Dining Room was worthy of a service tip.... nor was our experience worthy of five stars. Not sure if I would go back.

25/05/2025: Great food, great service, lovely atmosphere. The menu maybe limited, but the quality was extraordinary. The staff were not very knowledgeable, but also very helpful and friendly.

01/08/2025: I waited my whole life to have a Guiness and was told by our cabbie this was the perfect place to have my first and it totally was! Loved the charm of the old charm of the pub and the sassy owner /bartenders that made us feel right at home. When you are visiting you must stop in for a pint. The food looked really good too!

27/06/2025: Ein tolles Restaurant, riesige Portionen und geschmacklich hervorragend. Die Bedienung ist super nett und fix. Papp und Restaurant sind zusammenhängend, aber getrennte Bereiche. Abends hatten wir Livemusik von vier älteren Herren, Spezialisten mit ihren Instrumenten.

11/06/2025: What an awesome pub in the heart of Adare. We were in Adare on a Monday and Tuesday, Pat Collins was the only pub serving food on Monday night, we enjoyed it so much we went back on Tuesday and we were lucky enough to catch live music. Service and food are both great, the pub is clean, but the atmosphere is what makes it worth the stop!
