08/01/2026: This was the second time we ate at the restaurant. It did not disappoint. We had the early dinner menu. I had the veal, cod and date pudding. My friend had the cauliflower soup, pork belly and cheese plate. All 6 of the dishes were very delicious. The wine list was extensive and reasonable. Will definitely go back again!

31/12/2025: I cannot recommend this place highly enough! The staff were so welcoming, kind and professional! The food in the bar was fantastic and service was excellent! The breakfast again was really tasty! The bedrooms were spacious with extremely comfortable beds and a superb shower! I will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family!

24/11/2025: Kate Kearney’s Restaurant and Pub has a great parking area, and the staff are absolutely lovely—so attentive and always smiling. The food was gorgeous, and we even tried dessert, which was just as delicious. I would highly recommend this place to everyone. We will definitely pop in again!

04/01/2026: Went to The Elm Tree last night and overall had a really great experience. The place itself was amazing. The vibes, seating, atmosphere and service were all excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive and the restaurant has a really lovely feel to it. I ordered the featherblade and it was honestly 10 out of 10. Absolutely incredible. I really enjoyed it and will definitely be back because the food was genuinely outstanding. The only issue I want to mention is about menu transparency. When we arrived we made sure to ask if certain dishes contained alcohol as my boyfriend is Muslim and does not consume alcohol. We were told that the featherblade is cooked with alcohol but this is not stated anywhere on the physical menu or the online menu. While I personally do consume alcohol and still chose the dish I think this is something that should be clearly mentioned as many people may not think to ask and could unknowingly eat something that goes against their religious or personal beliefs. Aside from that everything else was excellent. Amazing food, great service and a brilliant atmosphere. Clearer menu information would make an already fantastic place even

04/01/2026: I am not a food critic and very seldom leave a comment but I feel that the experience I had recently at the Elm Tree needs to be shared. Following a recommendation I organised a meal for 9 people for a very special occasion. On arrival we were all very impressed by the festive decor and warmth of the restaurant. However, my good experience ended there. Three of the people ordered starters but only two were served. Apart from that hitch the starters were excellent. When the starters were eaten and the plates were removed, the cutlery was also taken and not replaced. The guests in question had to ask for replacements after their main course had been served. But then came the main course. Three of the guests ordered hake. On arrival this appeared to be a huge portion but turned out to be mainly mashed potatoes. The fish was presented skin side up. This is an entirely acceptable practice when the skin is crisp but not when the skin is soft (as if it had been steamed) and covered in sauce. A great deal of this dish was returned by each of the guests. One guest ordered the house steak. This steak was absolutely tasteless. It beggars belief that anyone could manage to make steak so bland. The remaining guests were content, though not overjoyed, with their main courses (salmon and burgers). Now comes desserts. Only two guests ordered desserts, for which they had again to ask for cutlery. One guest was presented with an incorrect dessert, which was changed, so was satisfied in the end. The other guest ordered a sticky toffee pudding which arrived completely tough and dried out. Having complained about this dessert it was agreed that it was indeed sub standard and it was removed from the menu for the night. The staff member who dealt with the complaint was attentive and professional. His solution to my problem was the removal of the sticky toffee pudding from my bill and not adding the 10% surcharge to my bill. He did inform me that the head chef was working that night. To finish this review off I feel that the Elm Tree is now living on a reputation that may have been deserved in former times but is not currently relevant.

22/01/2026: A very nice Irish pub just steps from the city center. I liked both the place and the food. The staff were friendly and helpful, the prices were moderately high, in line with Dublin pubs. Vegan options are available, which is not always easy to find!

10/01/2026: I recently revisited this restaurant after about two years, and I’m pleasantly surprised by how much things have improved under the new management. During my last visit, I remember feeling let down by the service and the uneven quality of the food. This time, however, everything was completely different. The staff were genuinely welcoming and attentive without being intrusive, and the food was outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can tell there’s much more care put into every detail now, from the menu choices to the cleanliness of the dining area. Even the atmosphere feels brighter and more inviting. It’s wonderful to see a place turn itself around so completely. I’ll definitely be coming back soon and recommending it to friends.

02/01/2026: My husband and I would be a regular to Cavistons but went on New Years Eve before the fireworks, what a great way to end the year. The food was excellent as always, service was great and really lovely atmosphere. Always a delicious treat

27/12/2025: Abbeyglen was hands down the best hotel I've ever stayed at. My family stayed here for 3 days for Christmas, and the staff and owners really made the place homey and welcoming. They are the true gems; every need, every ask was handled. The waiters during breakfast and dinner were smooth and responsive. The moment my coffee was empty at breakfast, it was immediately getting refilled. The food for dinner was delicious every meal (3/3). The meals were all of the classics (pork Wellington, cod, etc), but every dish was 5/5. The crab claws were excellent btw. Furthermore, the Christmas special was really fun. The area has a nice balance of peace and quiet, but also have a sense of being filled and like you're not alone. There was a child and his mom playing on the steps, an older couple reading by the fire, and folks playing cards in the bar. It was a very special Christmas vacation, and we are lucky to have been a part of it. Abbeyglen, I'll be back one day. Truly a special place. Thank you Brian, Ronan, and all of the staff. Your staff were all fantastic. Seriously, from Nico to Olive at the front, all were fantastic.
