16/08/2026: This place should be better known! We have been several times and each time it has been really delightful. This time we had visitors from the USA, so were a large party. We ordered all the starters, all the tapas, some albondigas and all the desserts (with extra churros for the youngest person). Everything was terrific and an education in tapas. It really tastes like you are in Spain or, more precisely, Catalunya. We got to try so many different things and it was certainly enough food. The price was very fair for Dublin and the wine is good value too, with relatively little markup. The staff were lovely, as always, and very keen to help, in this case for us to sit outside. Our tip: order lots of bread to soak up the sauces.

Whether you’re sightseeing or simply taking in the local culture, Flannery’s feels like an authentic part of the Limerick experience. We kept our visit simple with a couple of drinks and really enjoyed them. I ordered the Flannery’s Hazy, which was smooth, refreshing, and full of flavor. My husband stayed true to Irish tradition with a perfectly poured Guinness, and it was everything you would expect while enjoying one in Ireland. Sometimes a great pub doesn’t need an elaborate meal to leave a lasting impression—good beer, a comfortable setting, and friendly service can be more than enough. What stood out most was the genuine atmosphere. This isn’t a place trying to be trendy or touristy. It’s a proper Irish pub where you can relax, enjoy a pint, and soak in the history and culture around you. If you’re visiting Limerick and want an authentic experience rather than a chain establishment, Flannery’s deserves a stop on your itinerary. 29/06/2026: There are pubs, and then there are places that seem to exist outside of time, quietly collecting characters, conversations, and perfectly poured pints. M. O’Brien’s is one of those rare places. I wandered in because my hotel was just around the corner. Convenience got me through the door. The atmosphere kept pulling me back. The room is comfortably compact, with small wooden tables that almost force you into conversation. Before long, the people at the next table aren’t strangers anymore. Every person seems to have a story, and every story somehow gets funnier with a pint in hand. Speaking of pints, the Guinness deserves its own standing ovation. This wasn’t just a Guinness. It was a masterpiece of patience. The slow pour, the creamy head sitting proudly on top, the glass looking almost too perfect to touch. The first sip erased every disappointing pint I’d ever had elsewhere. Rich, velvety, impossibly smooth. If Dublin had an official handshake, this would be it. The bar is the heartbeat of the place. Locals lean in with easy smiles, bartenders know exactly how to keep the room humming, and laughter never seems to stop. Not loud, manufactured laughter, but the kind that comes from old friends, good timing, and another round arriving just when it should. There wasn’t a trace of tourist theater here. Nobody was trying to put on a show. The welcome was genuine, effortless, and unmistakably Irish. Within minutes I felt less like someone passing through and more like someone who had been expected all along. After long days photographing some of Ireland’s finest golf courses, it became my nightly refuge. A short walk from the hotel, a flawless Guinness waiting at the bar, and a room full of people reminding me that the best part of travel is rarely the landmarks. It’s the conversations you never planned to have. The great discoveries aren’t always found at the end of the road. Sometimes they’re just around the corner, hiding behind a perfectly poured Guinness and a room full of people who make you feel like you’ve been coming there for years.

01/09/2026: We had our Day 2 at The Drift Inn, mostly using the back patio. It was a perfect space, the staff were so accommodating and friendly, they sorted us out with a microphone and speakers for our pub quiz. The food was great. Would recommend!

" Overall, we had a really lovely experience. First of all, we both thought the food was very good. We really enjoyed the starters, especially the chicken vol-au-vent and the prawns with pickled tomatoes. For the main courses, we had the halibut and the duck leg, and we enjoyed both of them. The desserts were lovely as well. One of the highlights for us was going out onto the deck and watching the boat go through the lock. It was really interesting to see the gates close and the water level rise, and we really enjoyed the view from the deck. It made the whole experience feel a bit more special and different from a normal restaurant. We also thought everything was very well organised. From taking our orders to the timing of each course being served, everything went smoothly and we never felt rushed. Overall, the combination of the food, the service and the experience on the boat made it a really enjoyable evening. " " Great restaurant, wonderful experience. The boat slowly rises as it moves up the canal, which is really unique. The food was excellent too.
