The best restaurants

24/06/2026: The Talbot was a nice enough hotel. The room wer stayed in did not have a/c and it was a very hot day in Ireland. The TV needed to be adjusted due to the HDMI cord continually falling out of the wall. Overall, a nice stay for just one night in Midleton.

27/07/2026: We held our wedding lunch at The Old Spot in July 2026, having visited several times in the months leading up to the day. It quickly became one of our favourite restaurants in Dublin, so choosing it for such an important occasion felt like an easy decision. From the very beginning, the service was exceptional. Alisa, Hazel and Denise in the reservations team were incredibly helpful throughout the planning process. They happily accommodated all of our requests, from creating a bespoke menu and ensuring there were excellent vegan options to guiding us through the wine selection. We were also able to drop off all of our decorations the day before, and Alisa made sure everything was beautifully set up and ready for our arrival. On the day itself, Aiden was simply outstanding. Professional, warm and effortlessly organised, he made everything run seamlessly. What really stood out was that the entire team felt like part of the celebration rather than just serving it. Every member of staff was genuinely invested in making sure we and our guests had an unforgettable day, and their enthusiasm and attention to detail did not go unnoticed. We had 40 guests across four tables, and the upstairs private room was the perfect size, with plenty of space to comfortably accommodate larger groups. The natural light from the ceiling windows made the room bright and welcoming throughout the afternoon, the air conditioning kept everyone comfortable despite a warm July day, and the linen tablecloths were well worth adding for an extra touch of class. One of the biggest talking points among our guests was the food. Being able to order from the full menu without asking our guests to pre order in advance made the whole experience feel much more relaxed and personal. With five main course options and excellent vegetarian and vegan choices, everyone found something they loved. The wine list is extensive and very reasonably priced. If you’re looking for a venue for a wedding lunch, birthday celebration, corporate event or any special occasion, I genuinely couldn’t recommend The Old Spot highly enough. The food is outstanding, the venue is fantastic, but it’s the people who truly make it special. To everyone at The Old Spot, thank you for helping to make one of the most important days of our lives so memorable. We’ll be back many more times in the years ahead.

11/07/2026: My family and I went for afternoon tea today and we were shambolic and didn’t know where we wanted to sit and were generally being very annoying! So I wanted to say thank you Killian and Emily for their patience with us today! Killian especially had the patience of a saint with us and was so lovely to my mammy who was on crutches and the two young girls we had with us. Thanks for being so delightful to us, we really appreciate it!

09/07/2026: Fabulous hotel. The food is amazing with a great selection for breakfast, cookery demonstration and wine tasting. Staff are lovely and so helpful. Beautiful views of Lough Eske and the Bluestack mountains.

12/07/2026: Great place to start for our first place in Dublin! Food and coffee was delicious when it actually arrived because I think the waiter must’ve forgotten my order and had to ask us for it again so it took a long time…. HOWEVER the staff were very apologetic and gave us a mini Victoria sponge to make up for it and that it did! 😊 the waiter also gave us some great local recommendations and was super friendly!

15/07/2026: Went for Sunday lunch. The starters of burrata and croquettes were fine but nothing amazing. We went for pork and beef for the roast. The meat is very tasty and cooked very well but found the gravy a bit lacking. The veg of peas and carrots is very boring and was not seasoned properly and the stuffing was very poor. The staff were really friendly and service was very good but we wouldn’t be rushing back.

14/07/2026: Back for the first time since having kids and the staff could not have been nicer and helpful with the kids! Food is top class, service too. We felt so well looked after! Thanks a million. Looking forward to coming back soon!

05/04/2026: Myself and my wife stayed in the chester Beatty on Easter Saturday night On arrival we were met in reception by two very welcoming gentlemen. Check in took about one minute or less, asked if we needed to book table for food as the car park was fairly full, we were told there would be no problem just go in when ready. We went to our room which was absolutely spotless and warm. Food was wonderful, fast and the staff couldn't have been nicer. We had a couple of drinks later in the bar which were lovely aswell with bar staff were great. After a very good sleep we had breakfast which was perfect in every way. Definitely visit again. 24/03/2026: As a local who has visited many times, I was extremely disappointed with my most recent visit. I ordered the "smash burger" and what I received was anything but a smash burger. The two patties on the burger were at least 3/4" thick and were cooked to death (well done to the point it was like trying to eat shoe leather). Other than this the other aspects of the meal were to the usual standard we expect, wings, sides and sauces, etc were fine and enjoyable, and my partner enjoyed her food. The staff were lovely and very friendly, but they missed several blatant warning signs they should have spotted (such as taking pictures of the food, laughing and braking it apart with hands and leaving basically an entire main untouched because it was inedible). It was a Sunday and it was very busy and as I said the staff were great and could not fault their customer service... but as a retired hospitality professional myself, I can't imagine how a chef could have let food be prepared that badly, let alone leave the pass and be served to a customer. Very disappointed as I hold Chesters in very high regard and we regularly recommend our own guests (we run a B&B in the local area) go to Chesters for dinner because we have never had a fault in the past. Again it was a Sunday and it was busy but I really couldn't get over how poor the burger was. Staff were great as mentioned above and was a good ambiance and prices are reasonable as always!

17/07/2026: Eat here. We’ve been travelling to through Ireland for two weeks and food as been excellent! But this place is extraordinary! We had a reservation for one evening. I wanted to go back the next, but it was fully booked. So do book in advance. Eat here. You will thank me.

16/07/2026: A well crafted and thoughtful menu of delicious sharing plates. While small inside(section of outdoor seating too which we sat in at the end of the evening to finish our wine) it’s a welcoming and comfortable feeling space. The servers and staff were friendly and knowledgeable and it was a great dining experience.
