Junction 14 Mayfield
22/07/2025: Great selection of restaurants all in one building
Also the additional Park and Bark dog park is a great help for pitstop with the dogs, so they can stretch their legs too
Hoping some other sites start to introduce similar soon!
19/07/2025: Stopped into Mayfield Fare at Junction 14 around 8am and picked up three breakfast rolls for the road, and it was honestly a complete waste of €22.50. The rolls were disgusting. The bread was weirdly soft and soggy, not crusty or fresh like a proper baguette should be, and the rashers were basically raw, a really light pink colour that didn’t look cooked at all, they seemed to be dripping which I think is what made the rolls so soggy. The sausages had a strange aftertaste and overall, the food just wasn’t edible.
At €7.50 per roll, it felt like a total rip-off. And sure, you could go back in and say something, and to be fair, I usually always would. I work in hospitality myself and always believe in giving places a chance to redeem themselves. But this is a service station, the whole point is to grab and go back on the road, which we did. It’s not a restaurant where you sit down and can send something back on a usual basis. That needs to be remembered.
Staff were mixed, the older woman on till was lovely, and the lads were very polite, but the girls behind the counter who I dealt with didn’t seem too bothered. For such a busy place, it was a seriously disappointing experience.
We’ve actually eaten here before and thought quite highly of it, which is why this was such a letdown. Hopefully just a bad day, but when the food is this poor, it really leaves a bad taste, literally and figuratively. We won’t be rushing back this time.

Butler & Barry
Bray
17/08/2025: I have been here 3 times. The first 2 were fine, service and food was good. The 3rd time was enough to make me not want to come back ever again. It took an hour and half to get our food. Several tables that came after us got there food, ate and left before we did. After an hour I asked and they said the kitchen is backed up. I understand that, it was a full house when we arrived, but why are other tables that sat down 30 mins after us getting served first. After asking 3 times we finally got our food. The chips were stale and food mediocre. Just admit you put in our order late or the ticket was lost in the kitchen. Don't blame a backup kitchen when you have multiple tables being served food and finishing before we can even get a side of fries. This experience was enough to turn me off from ever going or recommending this place to anyone.
17/08/2025: Lovely stop for a nice meal on the seafront! Food is fantastic, waiters are kind and on the ball

The Oval
Cork
12/07/2025: It's not a food venue. A venue with a great character,history, and charm.
10/07/2025: Old Rustic bar in South Main Street, the City Center of Cork. Across from the old Beamish and Crawford Brewary, there's a lot of history in the area. There's a younger crowd frequenting it now, and they have some seating outside. The staff are nice as is the atmosphere.

Tigh T.P.
Murreagh
24/07/2025: Great place to explore the Dingle Peninsula.
Clean hostel with a shared kitchen.
The pub is right outside, and Sean and Fiona are very welcoming.
If you like, you can get breakfast from the pub instead of self-catering, but we didn't take advantage of that.
You can swim in the Atlantic Ocean in front of the pub (we saw several swimmers, even though the water was too cold for us).
Highly recommended.
23/07/2025: Nice pier side bar, good selection of food and beers.
Good service with nice seats outside.
Veggie soup was very good, decent fish and chips and a very good juicy burger.
Lovely spot with a nice hike on the doorstep and great beaches and pier.

Al Muretto
Castlebar legal
04/08/2025: Make a reservation for this restaurant. Excellent choice on the menu, great staff, great atmosphere and very reasonably priced. Service is swift and efficient. Staff are very pleasant.
03/08/2025: Al Muretto is a strange name, Google translating as "At the Wall"? I am sure there is a story there. But this place certainly doesn't hit the wall. This place is very good, serving some good Italian comfort food.
Another strange thing was the opening times, 4-10 all week, except on Sunday, where it's all day. We visited on Sunday and really enjoyed ourselves. But we were disappointed to visit a few days later, for seconds, and find it closed. It's hard running a restaurant in Ireland, so I understand, just sad there is no lunchtime opening during the week. I would go right now if I could.
One of the best ways to judge an Italian restaurant is the spaghetti Bolognese, a simple dish but very hard to make well. I think they do an assassin spaghetti type Bolognese.
Hubby ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese and really enjoyed it. The only criticism I have is that the Bolognese is offered with Penne or Spaghetti. Personally I am not into either, I love the soft texture of tagliatelle and would have preferred that option. Also the sauce was mixed with Parmesan, which was nice, but perhaps too much as it was too cheesy.
Wifey tried something more exotic. Wifey tried the Risotto Allo Scoglio, a seafood risotto. Wifey loved this, and still raves about it. I too liked it, but seafood is not my go-to. But Hubby was impressed as it all cooked to perfection, some of the softest calamari I have ever eaten.
Honestly there were so many other dishes we would go back for. Things I would love to try, the calzone, chicken and mushroom penne and risottos, the lasagna, the Veal scallops... Every time I look at the menu there is more I want.
And the desserts are great too. Wifey went with an orange cheesecake, and while she enjoyed it. It wasn't for hubby, I didn't think it worked at all. Cheesecake should only be lemon... Maybe rum and raisin only. But Hubby had the tiramisu and it was divine, the mascarpone was so moreish. The only down side was I almost choked on the cocoa dust, you have been warned.
Hubby and Wifey would recommend, and would go again and again. What makes this place really good for Families is the range of adult and children's dishes. On the table next to us was a family of three, the young boy ordered a pizza, and by God it was bigger than his head. He only finished half, I hope he had it the next morning for breakfast champions, before school.
On a separate visit. I had the Calzone, often described as a Pizza in a Cornish pasty. Sadly this was not good. The main flaw with this is that they used the shredded pack pasta, which doesn't melt. So when it was served to me all the mozzarella was still cool, and the Calzone was not really hot to begin with. A disappointing dish and I would not recommend it.... However I must say this is a once off and would highly recommend every other dish here.

The Bridge Bar
Ramelton
03/08/2025: Dinner in the Bridge bar last night was a wonderful experience, friendlyl barman downstairs started us with a drink. We were then welcomed upstairs by very professional, interesting looking ,well informed, cool staff! My scallop starter was delicious, followed by prawn risotto, affogato and coffee.Food was very tasty,a rarity these days, reasonable priced for what we got.The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming, despite only being able to aquire an early booking,so myself and my 3 friends ate solo.I can't wait to return!!
01/08/2025: This place is absolutely wonderful! The bar downstairs is perfect for a pre- or post-dinner drink, and the restaurant itself has a fantastic atmosphere. The food is truly exceptional, definitely try the specials. Our server, Seamus, provided incredible and personal service and it's super clear that the team there are passionate about what they do. We will be back. ❤️
Tip: take the bus and enjoy your wine without worrying about driving. We took the bus from Rathmullan, and it was a great experience. The return fare is just €3! You can also catch the bus from Letterkenny, and the driver was super accommodating – he even dropped us off right at the top of our road.
